buying or building a TV/stereo Jammer

I am in the market for a TV and/or stereo jammer. Failing the availability of such I am also happy to build one with the aid of some schematics . My question is: have any of you guys had any experience with this sort of equiptment. jammer

I have got a nerdy mate who can help me with the finer points of electrical engineering so that shouldn't be a problem but i really need something with a fair bit of range (approx 20 metres) that may or maynot have a direct line of sight.

The other thing i am thinking of using is one of these remote controller but a jammer would be better.

Problem with jammers is that they only disrupt the transmission signal, so it won't work with cable-tv, cd players and the like, just with TV's and radio's connected to antenna's. And even then the band you have to jam is quite large, from 86MHz up to around 900MHz.

A better approach might be a tesla coil :)

over the air tv and fm would be easy to jam, pick up a door buzzer ( magnetic contact/disruppting type) and add a few feet of wire to the contacts. screws up stuff for several meters

( until and if they jamees find out about it, then you are on your own)

I like the door buzzer idea, my motivation for jamming or interferring with TV signals is that i have halfwit neighbour who doesn't work and sits around all night watching TV with the volume cranked up. He doesnt have cable and only owns 2 CDS so that s not so much of a problem. As for DVDs/video there is a funny story about that.

A few months back he came racing home on his pushbike(doesn't own a car) and came flying down his driveway. I was building a side fence at the time and watched it all unfold. He raced upstairs and all of a sudden there was the unmistakable sound of Porn movies noises coming from his condo at full blast as he had his balcony doors open. This lasted for about 10 minutes till all went quiet. It was really fucking loud as the people from 2 houses down could here all this racket on a quiet sunday afternoon.

My idea is to build something that generates a fair amount of interference so that i can efectively put a curfew on his TV watching after a certain time at night. I am not to woried about being found out as this guy is genuinely very fucking stupid.

If nothing else this could become a very entertaining project. Ideally if there is a way that i can make voices emit form his TV speakers it would be perfect. "go to bed dickhead"

in that case, get a big speaker, ( megaphone) and blast your message to him.

Sorry, can't help you with the technical side of things, but I'm rooting for you. Let us know how it all works out!

Jack,

OK, I?ll bite on this one since you have now explained exactly what you are trying to do. First, I don?t think you will have much luck jamming a line (RCA or SVHS) video and audio signal coming from a VCR or DVD on the assholes TV, but what I have in mind could work. Too bad he doesn?t have a habit of listening to a particular FM radio station at high volume as there is an easy method to completely wipe out this kind of problem which can drive someone crazy trying to figure out what?s going on. :grinyes:

Anyway, please keep in mind that if you build any kind of high power jamming device - like the one I?ll describe in a minute. You?ll not be limited to just irritating the intended victim (hopefully), but also you?ll be jamming your other neighbors reception and with the device I'm going to describe, possibly the entire surrounding community within a bulls roar...

This little project is worth a try depending on your housing arrangement and if it fails to do the trick you won?t be out much money for your efforts. And it?s so easy to build that even a kid could do it. In fact, I did just that when I was a little monster.

Before I continue you might want to consider taking a more direct approach to solving your problem. Namely the old fist-in-the-face technique can be quite effective in these matters. Of course if the guy is twice your size and built like the Hulk this method might not be such a good idea.

After giving due consideration to the above possibilities and you still want to try jamming your neighbor, here is a list of the parts you will need to construct the project:

1.) Two large nails at least four inches in length.

2.) A small block of wood, a piece of a 2 X 4 should do nicely.

3.) A good length of insulated wire, just about anything will do such as a long piece of lamp cord you can split down the middle and peal into two pieces.

4.) A forty or fifty-thousand volt neon sign transformer available from any electrical outlet that builds or services neon signs like the ones found outside your favorite gogo bars. :) If you check the right places you should be able to pick up a used one laying around for just a few hundred baht.

Construction: Space the nails about four or five inches apart and hammer them into the block of wood just deep enough so they are well anchored. The neon sigh transformer has two high-voltage electrodes protruding from large glass insulators. Attach one electrode to the base of each nail using a couple feet of the wire and make damn sure to maintain good spacing between the wires!

Not much more to do as we are almost done. Attach another wire to the base of one of the two nails and fasten it securely to a metal cold water pipe so as to establish a good earth ground. Finally, attach another wire (this time a very long one) to the base of the remaining nail and run it up the side of your building as high as is possible - the higher and longer the run the better. When I was a kid I would just toss the wire as high as I could up into the branches of a tall tree... Are we having fun yet?

Tune-up: Bend the nails slightly inward towards each other and then plug the transformer into a wall outlet. If the nail spacing is far enough apart nothing will happen. If you get an arc the nails are too close together (actually this is what we are after but not yet). If all is well, unplug the transformer ? VERY IMPORTANT!!

Now bend the nails inwards a bit more and energize the transformer again. Repeat this process until you find the spacing where you get a very strong constant hot buzzing arc. Adjust spacing for maximum arc power. The nail heads will probably be around two or three inches apart. Also the nails should bend inwards towards each other. If outwards you will get a Jacobs ladder - which is interesting, but that?s another project and not what we want.

That?s it! You?re done and ready for testing. When I was a kid I constructed one of these gizmos and it would wipe out virtually everything ? TV?s, radios even telephones for a distance of at least a block. How well your jammer works depends largely on having a good earth ground and how long and high you can get your antenna wire. Good luck and keep in mind that the voltage and current produced by these transformers can knock your dick stiff ? that is: EASILY KILL YOU!! :yikes::skull::rip: One thing I learned a long time ago when working on high voltage circuits was to keep one hand in your pocket when poking around...

Live long and prosper,

Firstly thanks very much for your lengthy reply with the step by step guide (and thanks to the other chaps too)> this is the sort of thing i had in mind. As pasathai suggested, I was thinking of installing a spotlight and load speaker but decided on something more fun and direct. I should also add that i have been down various avenues to shut this clown up.

When i first moved into this house i paid him a visit at 1am one monday morning and banged hell out of his door to get him to shut up but he wouldn't come to the door (maybe cause i had my Rodesian Ridgeback on a chain with me at the time). I decided that i would follow the rules after that and paid a visit to my local police station and had a chat to them about the best way to deal with it as i though it may get ugly. Their advice was to just give them a call next time he made a pest of himself and they would sort it out. They didnt have to wait long and 2 nights later they came round at about 3am and shut him down for the night. I must point out that he had his TV going through his stereo and it was really loud. That kept him quiet for a week or so. My next step was to visit his leasing agent and inform them that if he kept it up i would be ringing them at 3 am and waking them up until they did something about it. They explained that he was a few sandwiches short of a picnic and called his mother (The guy is about 40) let her deal with it. I spoke to the other people in his condo block and it appeared that he had them all bluffed and they were too scared to complain.

At that point i lost my cool and collared him and let him know he wouldn't be long in this world if he annoyed me anymore. this worked a charm for about 6 months but alas he needs retraining once more, so i though i would take away the problem at the source and block his TV.

Anyway back to the point. I will give this a go, and am assuming you mean something like

THIS

I will have no problem installing a decent sized yet discrete arial and can even get a decent line of sight to his TV so i can see how well it works. A small problem may be that i live on top of a hill and it may have a fair range into the surounding neighbourhood but at 11pm most decent folks should be in bed anyway. I will see if i can get a photo of the culpret and post it here and keep you informed how it all pans out.

See if the main power breaker to his room is accessable from the outside, let him figure out what happend a few times ( especially if he is gone all day and the stuff in his fridge spoils)

also, anyone on this board in condo building on Phayathai Rd. have a problem with big "power serge" taking out their tv ?
