TroyinEwa/Perv
Today is the day that we officially acknowledge those that have served in the armed forces. I would like to thank each and every board member who has served our country and sacrificed being away from his family to do so. Thank you. Flashermac
Thanks, dude. After the Soviet Union collapsed, I'd hoped the US wouldn't have any new combat vets. Hasn't worked out that way and I salute those folks who have come after me. Maybe we need an amendment to the Constitution that says only a combat vet can order the military into combat situations, plus only combat vets in Congress can vote to support doing so too. Last combat vet in the White House was old Papa Bush. p.s. I still call it Armistice Day.

Flashermac
I come from a long line of conscripts. We don't ask to go to war, but when called we go. The Thais also recognise the day and I once saw a touching ceremony at the WWI vets memorial next to Sanam Luang. The last WWI vets were there, along with the general who had fought the Nipponese to a standstill at Songkla (before ordered to knock it off). At the end an RTAF light plane flew over and dropped poppies on the gathering. I had nice photos of the service, but Roger Crutchley at the Post lost them all. USVirgin
Meanwhile, what dominates the news today is the story of a bunch of cruise passengers who didn't make it to Puerta Vallarta. Link

Flashermac
Not to worry, they will be more than adequately compensated.
Old Hippie
Supposedly a few nights stay at top hotels in San Diego, a full refund, including transportation costs, and another free cruise...really not a bad deal, except for the loss of time involved...or if it was a special occassion...
