chuckwoww
20 years too late phil. VV is all druggies. LP is backpackers, coffee shops, bakeries and busloads of 'normal' tourists flown in to take pictures of monks. Shuts down about 10 pm. You might get a knee trembler behind the market. Guest lazyphil
yes, thats what i've seem to have 'researched'.....stick with all the weirdos and wackos in patong or pattaya......a shame because it looks stunning i just cant fit in with tarquins and jemimas on gap years
chuckwoww
Know what you mean. I don't get along very well with Gav and Kev having a laugh in Pattaya either. It's a lonely life.
Coss
Mr Phil, if I may offer an opinion: a day or two in Luang Prabang for the beautiful temples with not many coke machines... a side trip to the plain of jars... a day or two in Vientiane sitting at a river side bar (if there are any left)... and possibly a non planned week excursion to the four thousand islands region down south (near Pakse I believe) will be on my list... Flashermac
There is a nightlife in Wiengjan - the tuk-tuk drivers will probably ask you if you want to go there. Fairly tame ... about on upcountry Thailand standards.
gobbledonk
The two nights I spent in Vientiane was the longest month of my life.
Flashermac
I like the city for a few days ... roam around, find someone to chat with. Helps to speak Thai and some Lao though, except the old folks will probably speak Froglais. (But my French is crap. )
Guest lazyphil
lol, i hear you cw..... coss, thanks for your encouragement, all hope is not lost, i should not be so negative and critical of fellow tourists (though in VV they will insist on being called travellers, so i could go just to wind them up and call them tourists! :content: )
