  1. I've always found Kong to be pleasant chap with his "grumpiness" fun to lob little stones at, very amusing.

MPiH on the other hand, pings around, like scalded cat inside a whiskey barrel, most interesting.

And both, are excellent company for as you say, watching "the Soi unfold as we have done in the past after a late lunch".

Should someone be moved to comment on my personality, I'd be surprised, I'm not sure I have a personality, excepting as, Juan Antonio Miranda Vera Crusta De La Hoya Cardinales. This my monger name and my answer to the young ladies oft proffered "What you name?"

  2. Curious as to the rest stops an old train might make on a journey to Putin-land, I came across Pont de l'Amitié  which is in Wiki

... commissioned in 1959 as a replacement for a temporary wooden bridge. Located immediately downstream from the China–North Korea–Russia tripoint, the bridge is the sole crossing point on the 17 km long North Korea–Russia border. Planks are laid between the tracks making crossing of road vehicles possible by special arrangement, but it is primarily a rail bridge. The tracks are dual gauge because the Russian railroad system uses a track gauge of 1,520 mm (4 ft 11+27⁄32 in) while the North Korean system uses 1,435 mm (4 ft 8+1⁄2 in). The bridge is served by the Khasan railway station on Russian soil and Tumangang Station on the North Korean side of the river...

No words on the availability of online booking for tickets.

Attempts to contact the Tumangang border control office on the Nth Korea side have proved fruitless.

And the carpark looks empty, perhaps the Tuman Gang have been reassigned, or run away over the border...

  3. Being a dyed in the wool Cynic, I am tempted to write off The Nation's Special Anniversary Edition as;

"Throw a lot of money at someone, to get a 'once over lightly' Public Relations 101 newsletter".

Other may find this insightful. I saved it as a PDF for your viewing pleasure.

I particularly liked the photo for the page 22, Promoting Thailand as a tourism destination for Muslims.

Because Muslim ladies, that's all they want to do, escape the confinement of their houses and point at departure boards, at the airport.

  4. No Thais were reported to be among the more than 2,000 people killed in the earthquake that struck Morocco late Friday night, officials said.

Kanchana Patarachoke, director general of the Foreign Ministry's department of information, said that the Thai Ambassador in Rabat had not yet received any reports of Thai nationals affected by the earthquake...

This is of course great news. In related concerns, it falls to me, to be able to report that Thais were reported to be among the more than 100,000 people who are moving about the North Shore of Auckland City, this morning.

There is a man mowing his lawn down the road from me, and he has sparked concerns that a Thai person may be injured should his/her/they're foot, get under the edge of the running Lawn Mower.

Officials have noted that the small amount of blood and a tiny clawed foot, found amongst the lawn clippings, from the man's lawn mowing efforts, were more than likely to have come from a small rat.

"Can Eat?" a passing Thai was heard to comment.

  5. Having not had more than a taste, of an alcoholic drink, for some years,  I am now drinking heavily and onto my second bottle of imported beer Lao (big), after 2 bottles of random wine, in order to restore the All Black's said Mojo.

It is 3:47pm on a Saturday afternoon.

  6. A bunch of ones I've seen recently and can be moved to comment on:

The Last Voyage of the Demeter 2023

...the Captain's Log, from Bram Stoker's classic 1897 novel "Dracula"... is the basis for this movie.

I quite enjoyed this, not least for the rendering of the ship and how authentic it was, with no anachronisms.

    Heart of Stone 2023

...An intelligence operative for a shadowy global peacekeeping agency races to stop a hacker from stealing its most valuable and dangerous weapon...

    Not another Lady - Bond/Bourne - movie, I thought...

But quite good. Gal Gadot is a tight and attractive lass.

    Mob Land 2023

John Travolta does service in a minor role, the rest was slow and desultory, good for a rainy day.

    Inside Man 2023

...Bobby will stop at nothing to get close to the head of the crew, Roy DeMeo (Danny Abeckaser), to expose the murder and corruption. But as Bobby sinks deeper into the mob and more bodies drop, the price for absolution may be higher than he can afford...

    Not bad, I liked this.

    The Engineer 2023

As much as the Israeli/Palestinian conflict and it's participants leave me cold, this was an engaging watch, trying to give the point of view from all sides (yes there are more than 2). They didn't purport that this was based on real events, but it has that feeling

Good movie if you can stomach the zeal on all sides.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny [2023]

Archaeologist Indiana Jones races against time to retrieve a legendary artifact that can change the course of history. Old school entertainment with Spielberg written all over it, done many times before, has its moments.

Uneven use of AI/CGI in the beginning where Harrison Ford and Toby Jones were portrayed as their younger selves.

Lots of stars. As you say it has it's moments.

Could a been a lot better for the size of the franchise and the star power in it.

    Fool's Paradise [2023]

A down-on-his-luck publicist discovers a former mental health patient who looks just like a misbehaving movie star. He soon becomes an unlikely celebrity when he gets thrown into the bright lights and behind-the-scenes bustle of Hollywood. Several well-known actors are in this satirical movie about Hollywood movies (yawn). Possibly one of the most self-indulgent and annoying movies ever made. The lead character who also directed has a very punch-able face throughout.

Yes in the end, it could have been better.

But in the vein of a silent movie character in a non silent film, it was OK.

Remembering "Being There" with Peter Sellers, it's a reasonable attempt.

I suppose the young people would like this.
