Good Lad, we really do like America down here, and most all of my life has been on the bandwagon (trombone).

Though in WWII we had a saying, about the U.S. servicemen who R&R'd here, "Over-paid, over-sexed, and over here". Of course a lot of our fellas were in one Theatre or another, so the U.S. guys were popular.

I might be 1/2 yank :) excepting the DNA says Nordic.

  2. I was ambivalent about Zelensky, nice guy with a difficult job, etc.

Then this before the big spat:

Before their ugly clash, Zelensky, who was dressed in his trademark clothes, was asked by a reporter why he was not wearing a suit to the meeting in the United States' "highest level" office.

"Why don't you wear a suit? Do you own a suit?" he asked, leaving Trump, US Vice President JD Vance and other senior officials in the room in splits.

"Do you have a problem?" Zelensky shot back at the reporter.

"A lot of Americans have a problem with who don't respect the dress code of the Oval office," the reporter responded.

Zelensky then said he would wear a suit after the Russia-Ukraine war, which broke out in 2022, finishes.

"I will wear a (suit) costume after this war finishes, yes. Maybe something like yours, yes, maybe something better. I don't know, we will see. Maybe something cheaper. Thank you," he responded.

His training in Comedy coming to the fore.

Now I've got a bit if admiration.

The reporter who attacked Zelensky over the suit, is a Trumpanzee, Brian Glenn, who incidentally, just happens to be the boyfriend of far-Right congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Does Trump's wink to Marjorie Taylor Green's reporter boyfriend Brian Glenn prove the White House bust-up with Zelensky was a 'planned political mugging'?

This question was asked last night on Bill Mahers show. Basically, the answer was “…why even bother, let this guy destroy himself, when he starts really hitting everyone of his minions in the balls, he will just run out of gas…” (paraphrased). One of the panel guests said, there was no point in trying to argue with the fools as any rebuttal would be deemed fake news, but the best way to fight him is to do it politically and legally. Some republicans who previously played along, are now speaking up and djt may be losing support from his own side… We can hope anyway. I do think djt should be called out for his lies and bullshit, but previous attempts seem to have failed…

Q; When the price of eggs/consumer goods/gas, gets higher and the proles are getting really upset, does the White House have sufficient security measures in place, to defend against th next gathering of MAGA members?

... be terrible if there was an old fashioned lynching.

  4. Trump to Zelenskyy: "Don't tell us what we're gonna feel. You're in no position to dictate that. You're in no position to dictate what we're gonna feel. We're gonna feel very good and very strong. You're right now not in a very good position. You're gambling with World War 3."

Zelensky did err here, everyone knows that you can't tell a 13 yr old girl anything about feelings.

  5. dear 'mericans,

Just a piece of free advice from a chap that resides in a country that is one of your allies:

It might be time to change your negotiator. the one you've got isn't winning.

Anyone will do, Mitchell McConnell, Barack Obama, Steve Scalise, Arnold Schwarzenegger, just grit your teeth and get someone.

  6. Yes, it would be funny if it weren't so serious for the rest of the world...

    And yet still very funny.

5 bullet points (or as 'mericans know them - 'bullets') from this debacle:

Not a bullet point,  but notable never the less: FBI Director Kash Patel said in part: “The FBI is entering a new era — one that will be defined by integrity, accountability, and the unwavering pursuit of justice.”

How much does Donald trust Kash and vice versa?

Donald needed back up, he could not have the meeting solo, cause he screwed up with France and Britain in recent days ...

What do bullies do when they can't be effective? get his/her/their crew to help bully.

So where is the much vaunted peace deal, with unprecedented access to rare earth and minerals for the U.S.A.?

  7. Russia-US talks imminent, US says Ukraine not on agenda

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says the talks will focus on creating better conditions for Russian diplomats in the US and their US counterparts in Russia, after a series of rows. Photo: AFP

Russian and US diplomats will meet in Istanbul on Thursday for talks aimed at restoring their respective diplomatic missions, seen as a step towards ending the war in Ukraine, both sides said on Wednesday.

The talks come as the administration of President Donald Trump reversed his predecessor Joe Biden's policy to isolate Russia over its invasion of Ukraine and instead focus on restoring ties with Moscow and ending the three-year war with Kyiv.

The rapprochement began after a call between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump on 12 February, followed by a high-level meeting between the two sides last week in Riyadh.

Delegations led by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov agreed in Saudi Arabia to open discussions on diplomatic missions.

The warming of ties between Washington and Moscow has alarmed European allies.

The US State Department said Thursday's talks, which will be led by working level officials, will not include any discussions on Ukraine (because Putin tell Donald "NO") but will still be seen as a test of Moscow's desire to genuinely engage.

"To be clear, there are no political or security issues on the agenda. Ukraine is not on the agenda," a State Department spokesperson said.

"The constructiveness of these talks will become apparent very quickly; either issues will get resolved or they won't. We will know soon if Russia is really willing to engage in good faith," the spokesperson added.

Earlier, Lavrov said the talks would focus on creating better conditions for Russian diplomats in the United States and their US counterparts in Russia, after a series of rows over staffing levels and embassy properties. The outcome "will show how quickly and effectively we can move", Lavrov said.

Trump has said he wants to move quickly towards a ceasefire in Ukraine, but Putin this week tempered expectations of rapid progress, saying nothing could be achieved without restoring trust between Russia and the United States. (because Putin tell Donald "NO")

    'Systemic problems'

The US delegation will be led by deputy assistant secretary of state Sonata Coulter; the Russian delegation by Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs director of the North Atlantic department, Aleksandr Darchiyev.

The two countries have expelled diplomats and limited the appointment of new staff at each other's missions in a series of tit-for-tat measures over the past decade, leaving their respective embassies thinly staffed.

"Our high-level diplomats, experts, will meet and consider the systemic problems that have accumulated as a result of the illegal activities of the previous (US) administration to create artificial obstacles for the activities of the Russian embassy, which we, naturally, reciprocated and also created uncomfortable conditions for the work of the American embassy in Moscow," Lavrov said.

The State Department spokesperson said the respective embassies in Moscow and Washington, as well as Russian consulates in New York and Houston, would be discussed on Thursday, but not Russia's mission to the United Nations.

"Specific issues on the agenda include staffing levels, visas, diplomatic banking, and other operational issues."

Both countries have said they want to explore the possibility of lucrative business ventures, as well as seeking an end to the Ukraine war. Putin said this week that Moscow would be ready to invite the US to enter joint projects to tap rare earth deposits in Russia and in the parts of Ukraine that it has claimed as its own territory.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov reiterated on Wednesday that there was an understanding that Trump and Putin should meet in person after thorough preparation, but said there were no details yet on when and where this would happen.

He said the two leaders could speak again by phone if needed, but there were no current plans for this.

Approximately one-third of staff at Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency resigned, citing risks to the country.

The employees refused to compromise government systems or jeopardise Americans' sensitive data.

Musk downplayed the resignations, labelling the workers as “political holdovers” who refused to return to the office.

So who gave them jobs in DOGE Eion? some Ketamine fuelled, Chainsaw dancing dolt?

A Genius, I saw an interview recently on the making of "the Life of Brian" and all the Monty Python members were star struck and in awe of Spike.

    Such was his heft.

  10. GOP passes budget bill by 1 vote.

“This budget rips health care away from millions while handing out $4.5 trillion in tax breaks, the overwhelming majority of which go to billionaires and wealthy corporations,” said Rep. Brendan Boyle, D-Pa., the top Democrat on the Budget Committee. “It slashes at least $230 billion from food assistance programs at a time when grocery prices remain at record highs. And it proposes, and I hope every American listens to this, it proposes at least $880 billion in cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act. ... All so billionaires can get even a bigger tax cut that they don’t need and the hard-working people in this country can’t afford to give them.”

Didn't Trump say on camera that Medicaid wouldn't be touched? Did He Lie?

  11. Watching the goings on today, I reckon that people are getting to the limits of their acquiescence to Trump and Musk.

Trump administration scrambles to rehire key fired workers (again)

DOGE reportedly fired members of the FDA’s cardiac devices unit, which oversees devices like pacemakers and implantable defibrillators.

...those who work in the medical devices division are responsible for “approving and monitoring the safety of a range of products, from X-ray machines to surgical implants.” In this specific case, some of the fired employees apparently worked in the cardiac devices unit, “which oversees devices such as pacemakers and implantable defibrillators,” though the administration is apparently now in the process of trying to bring some of them back.

    _____

Republican Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska has noticed some of the Trump administration’s recent troubles, and last week the congressman offered his fellow Republicans on the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue some sensible advice. “Before making cuts rashly, the administration should be studying and staffing to see what the consequences are,” Bacon said. “Measure twice before cutting.”

    _____

We recently learned, for example, that the Trump administration fired a group of employees at the National Nuclear Security Administration, whose job it is to oversee the country’s nuclear weapons stockpile. Soon after, the administration came to realize what these fired workers do and why they are important, and they decided it’d be a good idea to rehire the people they had fired.

    _____

Soon after, Americans learned that the U.S. Department of Agriculture accidentally fired “several” employees who are working on the federal government’s response to the H5N1 avian flu outbreak.

    and so it goes.....
