  1. Well I for one think that you wouldn't get anywhere without Facebook in LOS if you were wanting to conduct business in the Fashion or Entertainment industry.

Waerth, this is not a dig at you. - Most all, of the participants in the Fashion or Entertainment industry, don't know how to work a real website, they are superglued to the nipple of the feckless and facile, the only information exchange they are good at, is the exchange of phone numbers and Facebook pages and occasional 'real' conversations, you know, the ones where you use your voice and say things like "Oh ya, it's like, you know, you knoooowwww. And she's such a drag, oh ya, mmm, ya... (repeat ad infinitum)".

  2. Here in the glorious people's republic, what they do, is they give you a service and you can opt out if you want to.

So if you don't use your phone much, you can often find out later, some significant money has been eaten.

I've been known to storm into the provider's customer service centre and point at the offending service on my phone, whilst clearly serenading the staff with "Bor ow, bor ow!" (Don't want, don't want).

The staff are very good, they show me how to delete the service and wonder why anyone wouldn't want the latest marketing mastubatory method of ripping the customer off...

  3. “We have to address the way that police in this country are armed as if they are invading a foreign land,†Mawuli said. “It’s disturbing, and innocent people are hurting.â€

Even in foreign lands, the killing of children is a no no. Well, to everyone except Muslims and Americans.

It seems the Yanks have reached the precipice, the moment, where the "Good O'l Boy" version of civilisation, teeters on the brink, of the abyss of inhumanity.

And I mean this, I really do...

  4. "However, some importers or traders have cheated consumers by mixing it with inferior rice grains to lower their costs, damaging the reputation of Thai jasmine rice in many markets, mainly Greater China and Singapore, where this variety is favoured."

No Thai, of course, would ever think of doing this.

  5. What's the real value of online ads? Maybe not much

    By Jordan Weissmann

A group of economists have issued a study with a startling conclusion - for a large well-known brand, search ads are probably worthless.

In the summer of 2003, Viacom executive Mel Karmazin managed to sum up old media's horror of the Internet with one of business lore's greatest vulgar one-liners. Karmazin, a swaggering former ad salesman and onetime CBS Corporation president, had made an expedition to check out Silicon Valley's hottest young upstart: Google.

Sitting in the future search giant's offices, he listened in dismay as its founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, and its CEO, Eric Schmidt, detailed the many ways their company could track and analyse the effectiveness of online advertising. This could not possibly be good for business, Karmazin thought.

It had always been nearly impossible for marketers to tell which of their ads worked and which didn't, and the less they knew, the more a network like CBS could charge for a 30-second spot. Art was far more profitable than science.

As Ken Auletta later recounted in his 2009 history of Google, Karmazin stared at his hosts and blurted out, "You're [expletive] with the magic!"

  6. “Imagine the people who believe such things and who are not ashamed to ignore, totally, all the patient findings of thinking minds through all the centuries since the Bible was written. And it is these ignorant people, the most uneducated, the most unimaginative, the most unthinking among us, who would make themselves the guides and leaders of us all; who would force their feeble and childish beliefs on us; who would invade our schools and libraries and homes. I personally resent it bitterly.â€

  7. NZ lotto is 6 digits and another option involving a 7th. The odds are what they are, but on average someone wins the 6 digit lotto every week (when someone doesn't, is more than balanced by multiple people winning some weeks).

So NZ is 4.5 million people, the odds must be something about 1 in 4.5 million.

  8. I know a Canuck who got a soccer scholarship to the University of Alabama. Two comments:

    1) He is about 6' 2'.

    2) I didn't even know that UA had a soccer team. :surprised:

Which is why Canada and USA don't do so well in Soccer, they're too big!
