NOT deleting any of my travel section posts from last December (as some outraged sponsors may have demanded!)

The beauty of the sponsors of board is that some Board Members are the sponsors, no external entities to “keep happy”

Unfortunately some board members have passed away, and the rest of us are defying medical science and hanging in there

  2. Joking aside there is the formal and informal meaning of news, the formal one being as previously defined, basically formal reports of events considered likely to be significant to the target audience which are normally broadcast or published soon after information about them becomes available.

The informal meaning appertains to something one is hearing for the first time : something one did not previously know, as in “That’s News to Me”

Formal news one would expect to be broadcast or published as in Post Legend Dies, where as Informal news, such as an individual finding out hypothetically that “Post Legend Dies” three years after the event would not be worthy of publication, no matter how much Bubi thinks they should be 🙃.

IMHO the “NEWS” forum of the board should be reserved for the Formal types of News where as Informal news / Today I found out type announcements are more suited to General Discussion or Board Bar.

But hey, I’m not a moderator / don’t make the rules so hat I say and think doesn’t really matter, I just like going on a rant and talking shit every so often practicing for my grumpy old man badge.

Would facebook notify him somehow if he receives something by "normal" facebook, me answering on an old issue?

It all depends on how the recipient has set up his account, there is an option for email, sms etc notification but it needs to be set up. How the account is configured is not viable to other users.

    FB Notifications

  4. This may help

The first step to understanding whether or not your message has been read is to become familiar with the Facebook message read receipts. These little icons appear next to a message in your conversation thread to let you know its status. There are three possible statuses: Sent, Delivered, and Read.

  5. The reason I did not say “A Few Days” is because that would have opened another can of worms, i.e. how many is a few. I was taught

    • 2-3   A Couple of days
    • 4-6   A Few Days
    • 7-14  Several Days

Or maybe I wasn’t taught and it is just what I think, teachers wore capes, carried canes and tried to teach me Latin when I was last at school.

  6. The way I see it, which may or may not be how others do, is that if something is within the past 2-3 days then it is “ News”, Once something is over a week old, as in this case, then it is no longer news.

Now there are no hard and fast board rules to “what is news” so a BM can post anything, but if other BM’s find the article dated then expect the piss take 😀

    Note

  7. Well define “Recent”

Research from Google Trends, in partnership with Schema and Axios, has found that the average ‘big’ news story lasts for around seven days before the public moves on to the next crisis.

The study, based in America, used Google Trends to look at a range of news stories throughout 2018 and found that searches for events — the Hawaii false missile alert or Thailand cave rescue, for example — seemed to deteriorate after just seven days.

Axios said: ‘The news cycles for some of the biggest moments of 2018 only lasted for a median of seven days — from the very beginning of higher-than-normal interest until the Google searches fizzled out.’

So BIG NEWS stories tend to die out after Seven days, so Ipso facto smaller news stories quicker.

The OP was 8 days after the event and therefore, in my humble opinion not newly received (How could it be New if 8 days old) not particularly noteworthy and not about recent events ( as per research cited). I. Such case the OP does not meet your. Tied definition of News

Perhaps we should have a new sub-category in the news section

    • News
    • Non Thailand  News
    • Out of date articles that Coss sees fit to grace us with

But the forum in "News" which in it's simplest definition is "newly received"

News does not mean  Newly Received well at least not in the Kings English anyway, stop fabricating facts to support a hypothetical argument

The old saying, Yesterdays Mews is todays Fish and Chip Paper, that News was so old it had been Fish and Chip paper and the paper had already been recycled

  9. Well another word for news is “Current Affairs” so what is your definition of current?

    Is it now or ongoing?

This post is nether current or ongoing, the story does not belong to “The present time”. Now if the assailant had of been charged yesterday, or in court of something then that would be “Ongoing” an update on the story, but it wasn’t just an article of over a week ago with no new information.
