In order - Vietnam, specifically Hanoi or northern half, I love visiting often cheap, and everything pretty much anyone on this board available, Philippines, away from Manila some stunning places and still cheapish, Indonesia for same reasons I love working in Jakarta, never thought I'd say that!, Malaysia is far more retire farnang friendly, but getting too expensive.

  2. I was on the SkyTrain today, saw a great add on a large screen at Siam, the busiest platform, with many tourist, and their watching this great video of the Suphan Buri Loi Kratong, and the candle festival.

    In Thai script - farking brilliant!

     

    I saw some wifey tourist look saddly at her hubby tourist, as they knew they would miss out on something really good, but no idea when or where.

     

    Brilliant.

  3. Dutch Chap I worked with in the early 90's in Oz and his Dutch wife had been childhood sweet hearts, separated at about age 14/15 with the Japanese invasion.

     

    When the Japanese fell, the camps just opened up, he had no idea how he'd find her, if she was still alive etc.

     

    He walked out of the camp, down the main street and literally bumped into her doing the same thing, they had no idea they had been in the same area.

     

    He proposed to her on the spot, and they remained married till his death in about 1995 I think.

     

    His business, which his wife worked in as well, was in advertising, and he placed advertising in Japanese publications, for some Japanese clients he had.

     

    His sister in law though I suspect, but don't know, had a tougher time, she never bought anything Japanese branded, nor would she sit in a Toyota etc,

     

    Lovely man, nice lady too, was very fond of them.
