Off the Rails is a load of crap.

The guy doesn't even give the correct name for the places. They would have loved the exposure.

I spoke to some people in PP who told me he was into young ones in PP and his I made my excuses and left line is Bull.

Just finished

When Broken Glass Floats

by Chanrithy Him

It's a very moving book concerning the Cambodian diaspora and particularly the author's autobiographical experiences. Half of her family ended up dead under the Khmer Rouge regime.

She's now living in the States helping Khmers suffering with PTSD. From the dustjacket she also looks quite a babe.

Letters from Thailand

This book is a collection of letters written by a Chinese immigrant who arrived in Thailand in the forties. He was from a small village in rural China and the Chinese authorities intercepted his letters to his mother. The man who got hold of them had an obsession with collecting and reading them; in time they ended up being published in Thai and at first caused controversy amongst the Thai authorities. In the end Letters from Thailand became a part of the Thai high school curriculum. The letters are written with amazing detail and flow like a novel. It’s a very good insight into Chinese/Thai relations spanning about thirty years, also a sad and sometimes funny story about family life. The author remains anonymous and still lives in Bangkok. It was also the first Thai book to be translated into English and now sadly out of print.

Try “voices from Thailand”

I bought this book about 8 or 9 years ago, written by a Thai journalist. It goes on the different live styles, covering each part of Thailand, including a major coverage on the hardship of isaan people working in Bangkok as taxi driver, the slaughter industries, the scene and their treatment as second-class citizens by other Thais.

I’m traveling at this moment, but for those interested, I’m more than happy to provide the writers name and other details later.

Written by an anthropologist so it can

be a little heavy going in parts, but

must be the best book written on the thai.
