Conrad Hotel Bangkok.

Thanks to this board and the info posted on the Bangkok Conrad, I stayed up there last week and am going back this weekend. I used to stay all over the place in Bangkok from the Nana to the J.W. but the Conrad is pretty hard to beat for the price if in the mood for a 5*. 4404 baht is what it works out to after the ++'s on the special rate they charge at present. They are just bending over backwards to please you there, at the moment anyway. Check-in is done in your room by p.r. ladies who insist you call the hotels "hotline" number if anything is not to your liking, then they give you the grand tour. You name it, the room has it, with some nice extras, and everything is still as new. Large flat screen t.v., in room safe, huge bathroom with seperate tub (complete with rubber elephant that squeeks when squeezed :D), all the usual little bottles of stuff your TG will souvenir, three telephones (bedside, desk and toilet), a magazine rack with newspapers and Time/Asia week, an ice bucket that actually has ice in it, three different Twinnings tea's, ground coffee and a plunge pot, high speed internet connection (at about 600 baht per 24hrs), king sized firm bed, more lights than you would ever turn on, a mini bar stocked like never seen before with all the normal stuff, plus Paracetamol, Alka Salza, breath mints, Tampons and Strawberry flavoured condoms :hubba: (insert multiple hangover/sex jokes here), a speaker for the t.v. in the bathroom that can actually be turned up enough to hear while wallowing in the tub or showering watching t.v., and the biggest kicker is the 7ft square window into the bathroom which is curtained off from the main room area, but with the press of a button, electrically zooms open ;). Reminded me of the Wet and Wild shows at G-Spot from days gone by!. No problems for guests, I told the lady while checking in I would have company later for sure, possibly a crowd (3 of us) and to send some more towels up, which was fine by her. The only down sides were some weird logic to the mini bar prices (220 for a can of Heineken or Singha, but 160 for Bacardi breezers), the internet in the business center was 500 baht per hour, o.k. it's high speed and really nice p.c.'s but thats just way over the top, and not really an easy walk to any night-areas so taxi's are the go (35 baht from Nana). Would really recommend anyone who normally stays at the J.W., Landmark, or similar to have a look at the rooms or spend a night for a comparison, you might find it to be a better option than your normal BKK digs. The last expensive hotel I stayed at was on a club floor of the Landmark, and had a disaterous couple of nights there resulting in a shit-a-gram to the manager which he handled poorly in his return letter. Not normally one to complain unless things get ridiculous, but when spending a hundred bucks a night for a hotel, expect service to be attentive and efficient. Thats what I got at the Conrad, and wouldn't push the Landmarks door open ever again. Fuck 'em. Hope this post might be of interest to some of you guys, and thanks again for the mine of info available on the board. www.conradbangkok.com

Oscar, Checked out of there after my 2nd visit on thursday, check out the pool - it is truly lovely and you don't need to pay 600 baht per day for internet usage, just plug your laptop into the datapoint on the phone and at 56k it was fast enough for what i was doing.

Thanks for the info and for posting the Conrad website. I like to deal directly with the hotel whenever possible. If the location is good, I may try the Conrad in lieu of the jw marriott.

I stayed at the Conrad the other night paid US$110 which included all of the taxes. Hilton Honors gold and platinum members get automatic next class of room upgrades and executive floor lounge access. I was upgraded to a junior suite and was very impressed. Check-in took a total of 5min as well as check out. The entire hotel smells new and unused. The room furnshings were very tasteful and comfortable. Marble wood and leather all over the place. The bathrooms are glorious with a free standing tub and glass shower stall with a rainfall showerhead as well as an extendable multi-presure one. You even get a rubber toy for use in the tub. I didn't have the bathroom with the curtained window that others mentioned but instead I had one with a large wooden sliding door with frosted glass that spanned half the width of the room. There is even a nice walk in closet/dressing room with everything you need from robes to slippers and seating area.

Stay away from the minibar because it is a real rip-off when you can easily walk to the indoor market at the hotel. The only other downside I can think of is that your room or lounge access card has to be used to activate the electricity for the room(which can be a pain because you may wlak out without it and someone has to open the door for you.

I can say that the staff was very helpful almost to a fault and when you check-in the front desk person will actually escort you up to your room(I assume this is for executive class rooms). I asked one attendant where the market was and the concierge overhearing actually escorted me to the mall.

For you white-skin female Thai loving types it seems that the entire female lobby staff and executive lounge are white skinned and they are all gorgeous as well as excellent English speakers. Very eager and bubbly personalitites too.

There is a security attendant at the lobby level of the elevator but aside from saying hello and pushing the elevator button I cannot fathom his purpose. They do not collect ID's from female companions and there are no joiner fees.

This is not a bar girl masters hotel. There were families with kids running all over the place. I guess they cater to the tourist package crowd as well as the business traveler. If you bring back one of your favorite Nana honey's you will stand out like a sore thumb on your walk through the lobby to the elevator. I did notice a discreet entrance outside on the Mezz level (Maybe through a restarant or shop?) where you can also get to the elevator without having to walk through the lobby for those who hate doing the "walk of shame" with their favorite tatooed lady.

I highly recommend this property for those who like 5 star hotels. The cab ride is only 45 bt from your favorite Sukhumvit haunts and if all hell breaks loose in Thailand for foreigners; Americans can easily walk next door to the US Embassy.

If you grab a business card and fold it over to make it thicker it will suffice as your power started instead of the card.

I have stayed there twice now and on my first visit they never bothered with ID cards but last week they did on both nights. 1 girl was from angel witch and obviously looked like a bargirl but the other was from CM2 and dressed very nice in a long business skirt and they still asked for her ID.

thanks for the business card tip. I would used to just take an envelope from the free sationery and fold it up to size.

The ID card thing must be a discretionary policy because I was at the hotel a night ago with a BG and didn't even get a glance. Just a "good evening sir".
