Actually this also is not correct. As more cases come in, it is clear that SARS can present very differently in different individuals. Fever is the "classic" hallmark, but data is showing that presentation can vary. Latest seems to be a "two peak" fever pattern. Small first fever, bigger second fever with a few days in between There may or may not be a sore throat, there may or may not be breathing difficulties (although this tends to be pretty common in the later stages). Sometimes the disease is very protracted, some times VERY quick -there was a doc in Singapore who was fine in the morning (i.e at home), and dead in the evening. Took an autopsy to confirm SARS. Clinically it seems to be taking 3 to 5 days to get a definite "yes" to SARS. Take the recent case in Singapore at the Institute of Mental Health. 30+ fever cases (patients and staff), big panic, three days later, not SARS but influenza (IIRC).
