luckyfarang
Can someone please give an English translation of this Thai idiom? I hear this word used a lot. OOT-AHT OOT-AHT JAI I thought that this word was similarto GEH-GAH, meaning something like "awkward", but it seems that the meanings are quite different. luckyfarang
The vowel is definitely short on both syllables. I'm not sure you have the same word in mind, and what about OOT-AHT JAI? Can you give an opinion on GEH-GAH? Short vowels on both syllables.
luckyfarang
I have seen the dictionary definition of "sluggish" before, and I think that this is clearly wrong, along with many other dictionary definitions. Are you in Bangkok now?
luckyfarang
My lady says that there are two different words: OOT(l)-AHT(l) with long vowel and low tone on both syllables. This does mean "sluggish" and is a synonym of NGOOM(f)-NGAHM(f) But the word that I originally posted about is OOT-AHT Aw Ang, Sa Ra Oo, Daw Dek, Aw Ang, Mai Han Aakat, Daw Dek
Guest
ÃÖ´ÃÑ´ -eut ut (sp?) - an adjective that is somewhat synonymous with mai sabai jai - äÃèʺÒÂã¨.. And can describe a person with an uncomfortable stiffled, surpressed or covered up kind of feeling or I think can quite simply mean to be embarrassed. Hope this is accurate.. I will ask more about it at school today.. Cheers FF
markle
FF is on the money there. (again) Can be best described as wearing tight fitting clothes or being in a strictly formal social setting and wanting to fart loudly.
Pharcyde
Agree, OOT-AHT means to be uncomfortable in one way or the other, The expression can be used about either social, physical or psychological discomfort. Last time I heard it was when I took my girlfriend out to eat at an Italian restaurant. After struggeling through a rather fatty pizza, she cound t finish it saying "Oot Aht". :: My take on the other expression "Gae Gah" . It means something like disturbing, interfering or bothering. Mostly it is used when referning to furniture or other "concrete" stuff that somehow has been misplaced in a disturbing manner. BR PC
Guest
Ã×´ÃÒ´ means slow (moving). ÃÖ´ÃÑ´ means uncomfortable. Markle and FF give some good examples.
