BkkShaggy
I have a friend coming over to Bangkok. He's done everything a 'tourist' should do. Now he wants me to show him the real Thailand. Do you have any idea where I could take him to, say, a day trip ? He's done Ayuthaya Art and Handicraft and Bang pa-in stuff. Any idea would be very appreciate it. Thanks in advance. bangkokbutcher
Well i suppose that he should see some of the islands, so Phuket or Samui should be part of the trip. Maybe take him up north to Chiang Mai / Chiang Rai / Mae Honh Song for some mountains. See a bit of Issarn, and go up to Korat, Udon Thani, Nong Khai (or where ever) to see the farming communities. Just get yourself a guidebook of some kind and have a read and try to find out the sort of things that he would enjoy..

chuckwoww
I have so much trouble with that "real" Thailand expression. You want water buffaloes and finger dancing? Let's face it the real Thailand is what you see around you. Shopping plazas, motor bikes, Tesco Lotus, tourists and ya ba. What you see is what you get......the good the bad and the ugly. chuckwoww
Of course if your friend wants to ride a fully loaded song-thao down a dusty, dirt road for a few hours and sleep on a floor made of split bamboo and eat tadpoles I know just the place. Tell him to bring some mosquito repellent..
