Redbaron
Just bought a new PC with a DVD player included. What I want to do is extract the music (audio) from a few Music DVD's in order to: 1. Play them on the PC jukebox, and 2. Play them in the car (after burning a CD). I'm told the software's out there somewhere to do this.... anyone know where?
soongmak
Extracting the Audio files is a two step process. Check out this guide on ripping a DVD. You need Smartripper to rip the dvd and DVD2AVI. When decoding the music file, make sure you set it to 44.1 Khz, otherwise it will be hard to burn it on a CD. Links to both freeware programs can be found in the first part of the guide. You might also want to download Audacity for chopping up the huge audio file into smaller pieces for easier navigation. this excellent program is also for free. P.s.: before you start ripping make sure you have between 5 and 9 gigabyte available on your harddrive. Good luck, soongmak
soongmak
Hi, I just thought of an easier way to capture the sound. You could download the excellent program Total Recorder. You can either buy it, or hunt the internet for a registration key. This program captures any sound going through your soundcard. Cheers, soongmak
BritTim
Total Recorder, mentioned by Soongmak, is the reliable option. If you want something legally free, Messer will usually work.

Redbaron
OK, I thought it worked well... but nothing came into the file. Don't know what I did wrong as it's a pretty simple application. The recording was 80 odd minutes long, but played back silent! I'll try again when i have more time..
