Hi

Kings Cross probably the best known part of the CBD lots of bars..(not like LOS) good for drinks and check out the eye candy etc.

Brothels massage parlors all here.

Costs very...AUD$150 for half hour up.depends on how up market the girls and brothel is.

Strip joints, freelance hookers all over the streets.

Oxford Street Darlinghurst..more up market and not as seedy looking...a lot of gay bars in this area as well.

Surry hills another part of Sydney...not far apart all of these areas.

Good Restaurants and shopping.

Hi TB,

I really have to question the wisdom of sending a tourist (no offence, Vinod) to the Cross. I know - its the first place a cabbie will take him, but the danger to life and limb is on a whole other level to that found in the LOS, or Singapore / HK / Tokyo. Personally, I'd prefer to pay the exorbitant price for a callgirl to come to my hotel than put myself through that, and I'm enormously cheap by local standards. I just value my life above the flashing lights and painted ladies that the Cross has to offer. Yes, I've wandered around Darlinghurst Road as a youngster, full of piss and naivety, but its so much worse now than it was in the 80's.

Now, for all I know, Vinod is the kind of guy who LIVES for the element of danger, but can we afford to make that asumption ? Its not so much the working girls, the bar owners or the pimps - they want you in one piece - its the bouncers and the local halfwits looking for trouble. One very tragic part of the world, IMO.

Hi artiew

Good points.

Just giving general info.

There are moves to clean up the cross at the moment....good luck.

Worth a look as a tourist...just do not walk down any alleys late at night..and get cabs where possible.

Call girl...you never know what you will get.

The bigger Brothels may be a better way to go..lots of choice and hell of a lot safer.

Hi

Thanks for high lighting the trouble spots. Even though I traveled widely, I do know that these kinds of places are always potential dangers for tourist.

It is more to see the night life / bars. I am not interested in the girls there. I have my friend from Vietnam who has migrated to OZ and livesin Sydney, she will be staying with me. ;) We want to go out in the evenings for a drink or two. She has no idea about bars / nightlife areas.

cheers

Hi

Ok...still have a drive through the cross ...will see some weird stuff ::

Bars ...now heaps of good ones.

My son works at the ""Three monkeys""

Corner of George Street(main street of Syd) and Liverpool street. Great bar good bands and lots of asians go there(short walk from chinatown) Vietnamese/Thai students love the bar.

Just down a bit and on same side of the road is ""Cheers"" another good bar has great Thai Food as well as pool tables etc.

Upmarket bars are at Darling Harbor.

Behind the Sydney aquarium...Cargo bar is #1 at the moment about 5-6 bars in a row all full of eye candy...18-35.

Good bands and food in all these.

Still in Darling Harbor....many great restaurants and bars all around the Harbor (small harbour) can walk all around,

Good for day or night fun....a must see.

As a 'tourist' who spent a couple of months in Sydney and regularly visited the 'Cross',(had 'backpacker' friends staying there) I honestly cannot think of a single time I felt threatened. I also never saw a single violent episode. There was the guy who let me use the internet cafe for free, the waitress in the Venice Beach restaurant who I ended up going out with... The nice Elizabeth Bay Motel that I stayed in for AUD$80 night(with kitchen and breakfast bar), The girls I went with to the Pink Pussycat strip club.

The scariest thing that happened to me was that an awful druggy pro offered herself, fisting included, for AUD$150. I was horrified, I can tell you. Darlinghurst Street I think it's called. I walked around there from Oxford Street at night many a time, on my own.

Another time, a street pro offered me a blow job. I bought her an ice cream and then ran away. She ran after me shouting "chicken". :p

Funnily enough, outside that area, Woolamaloo(?) I'd heard of a couple of muggings and also in George Street i saw a mugging in progress. It was so subtle, that it took me a while to realise what was going on. By the time I did and rushed over to the police to point them in the direction of the thieves, the police were "too busy" to do anything about it. I was dumbfounded.

I also 'adopted' a 15 year old 'homeless' girl, so bought her dinner every night.

The first time she asked for money. I said I'd buy her food and she said ok. Again I was surprised. So every night I bought her a take away from Pizza Hut/Taco Bell...

All these things added to the rich(?) tapestry of my trip.

I actually lived in a house near Cronulla, though I sometimes took an apartment to stay in the centre.

The waitress wanted us to move in together and for me to extend my stay in Oz. No go, I would have had to scrap my ticket.

I know my post hasn't much to do with hardcore sanuk, but, unless it's changed drastically in the last few years, don't rule out the 'Cross'.

Oh...There was also a woman who walked along Darlinghurst Street at night, with a huge pair of hooters. I was almost tempted.

Don't know how much the Cross has been cleaned up during my lengthy absence from Sydney, but between the junkies and thugs it used to add up to pure GRIEF!

Check it out for yourself but I'd advise going up with a few mates.

Vinod, the Rocks and Darling Harbor are party areas. If you're still lonely at the end of the night and have a few hundred bucks to blow (pun intended) grab the yellow pages, look under Escorts and head to A Touch of Class or Tiffany's.

Enjoy.

Oops, just noticed you will have company.
