Health Insurance and maternity & after

Today, I had to fill a form for health insurance (in Japan). The very first line, after my general details was - spouse`s name and nationality (means, who she is and where she is now).

My understandig was, even if she is in Thailand, she`ll be covered with my policy.

The insuring company is a large multinational, has presence in LOS.

Does it mean anything in Thai, really? Expats with their corporate coverage, have you seen any benefits from similar policies?

The price is, about 500US$ per month, for employee and his family.

I have the corporate medical insurance and it covers my wife and myself anywhere in the world. It has a US$500 per year deductible. Because of this I have never bothered to file a claim as it has to be pretty serious problem to reach the level in Thailand. Other parts of Asia are not near as cheap. I keep it because in other parts of Asia, medical can get expensive, in China, expat level care is as much or more the in the US.

US$500 a month sounds very high for the premium. My policy is only US$160 a month for the medical part (company pays US$110 of it).

Finally got the insurance papers and cards today. No idea how much it is but could be more than 500$ per month. Of Thai hospitals, there are 5 in BKK (Bumrugrad included, direct billing, no claim forms) and one in Chiang mai, Chiang Rai, Pattaya, Phuket, Khorat...

This is what's covered anywhere in the world (% says how much we pay) - look, I can even attend alcholic teherapy for free! ::
