So far in the UK the following has already happened or is happening - fuel prices UP, insurance UP, security costs UP, passenger bookings DOWN, number of trans-atlantic flights DOWN, passengers spending money in airport shops DOWN (this means passenger charges/airport "taxes" will go UP). The inference from all the info via the news madia is that the impact on bookings appears to be so severe that many airlines are ignoring the option of discounting fares to attract passengers and going straight to cutting back on schedules, fleets and staff.
