Guest
Hi, Can anyone tell me what the word galon means? Also does anyone know some amusing thai idioms, such as pay shat wow but more polite? Thanks..
Zaad
Hi Chico, It would help to give more details. Sentence perhaps? The only thing that comes to mind is a beach in the south that sounds like your galon (or 'karon').
Ranger
Can anyone tell me what the word galon means? The wife says it's means you are a playboy. Ranger
Guest
I think your right about the word playboy. Cheers
markle
'kalon' could be used when referring to a playboy but in a sneaky, untrustworthy sense. It more like 'shyster'. As for idioms there are the old standbys 'ying ka-tai' meaning to shoot rabbits (to piss(male) 'gep dokmai' meaning to pick flowers (again to piss (female)
Pescator
Hi Chico, Bid Fai Dtee Maew: Turn off the lights and beat the cat, I believe you can figure that one out by yourself Another similar one is: Laang Nah Gai, "wash the chicken`s face" meaning to have sex in the morning. Chuck Waow as you have already mentioned literally means "pull the kite". The female expression is Dtok Pet, literally to "fish with a lure". There used to be a lot of that stuff on thai-language.com, but it seems to have been discontinued. Cheers Hua Nguu

Hi, With regard to the Thai-Language.com website, I came across the following info as to why its down: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=6096
samak
kalon (actually pronounced kalorn) is more a fast talker, a slippery talker, not a playboy
Pescator
Hi Boo Radley, Thanks for supplying that link. What an utter waste of talents. It was IMO the best ressource for looking up thai vocabulary on the web. And he was very enthusiastic about it. I recall sending an email on more than one occasion asking about words or idioms not on the site and he included them within the same day supplying examples and sound files. Again what an utter waste. cheers Hua Nguu
jasmine
To me, it is not a good word for a character. It means fast talker, not trustworthy. IMO, of course. Jasmine
