Done that the last two times and HATE THAT FLIGHT!!! Same same here - all direct flights have filled a long time before I make my bookings. Take off 8am - arrive midnight. Fucked. MooNoi
What I usually do is waitlist on the direct flight and hold the flight to MEL via SYD confirmed. The waitlist normally comes through in the end. The last two times it hasn't worked though, but I've been on a cheap industry ticket. But on a normal passenger fare you should be ok. Thai's especially are notorious for holding about 4 different flights/dates, and as departure date gets closure, flights tend to free up a lot more and the waitlist gets confirmed. Fly P. stars99hk
Do not know the full story behind the country codes on aircraft but I do know that the ones starting with V all used to be British territories or dependents although some have now changed due to independence.
