Travelling to and from Grand Hi-Tech you are also bound to use either Petchburi Rd or Sukhumvit Rd (unless you take the klong boat of course). These roads are not the most fun to use during rush hour (frankly they suck ****)... Having that said, I've heard that Grand Hitech is an ok place but getting a bit run-down. If you look around on Internet I'm sure you can find reviews (I seem to remember I saw something on ajarn.com or some such web site). If I were you though, I'd be looking around in the Sathorn area. There are for example a bunch of half-cheap apartments around and behind the St. Louis Hospital along Sathorn Rd. From there you could walk to Silom. Another idea would perhaps be to check on Lumphini Park View, close to the corner of Rama IV and Sathorn Rd. Just a few ideas. You probably have to do most of the leg work and check-up on your own.
