New Petchburi Pete
O.K. I am convinced. I will go to Vientiane to get a new tourist visa. Would anyone happen to have a link to a map that shows where the Thai Consulate is? Can anyone recommend decent, affordable hotels? Thanks for all replies. cardinalblue
New PP, Please write about your experiences upon your return. I am still deciding between cambodia and laos. Also, see if you can find a hotel that allows women in your room. As I recall, if the hotel has any government ownership, woman are not allowed as a visitor or as an overnight guest in your room Let us know. Guest
If you locate the Thai Consulate in any map (like the one in Lonely Planet), you might be in for a big surprise ... they will not issue any tourist visas! Instead, they have a Visa Office next to the Morning Market (Talad Sao). Submit your application before noon, and you can pick up your passport the following day (after 1.30 pm). I usually stay at Day Inn Hotel on Pangkham Rd. You can get a nice double room with a big balcony for US$25. The hotel is 150 m from Lao Plaza Hotel, and walking distance from the visa office. New Petchburi Pete
Thanks for the advice. I had read about the office for visas on the Lonely Planet's web site. The hotel sounds like a good deal. How far from the river is it; and, does it have A/C ?
