Soi11
A friend of mine recently purchased a Garmin GPS portable automotive navigation unit for his car. He did a test run from Pattaya to BKK, and was really impressed with it. Check out their online commercial (takes a while to download). http://www.garmin.com/movie/SP26102650TV.mpg
Tiger on the prowl.
I am forever getting lost in Bangkok. Any Idea how much your friend paid for this unit. Also was it fitted by the shop and is it available in English language? Any of this info would be apreciated. Regards Tiger
Cumcannon
The unit displayed the Thai roads? I didn't think Asia was in it's database or even available.
samak
does he have software with roadmaps in thailand? wonder, how reliable they are, as usually the printed maps are not really that accurate.
Soi11
I think he paid ~40,000b. I'm not sure if it's a permanent installation or can be taken form car to car. It has all the main roads an even the small sois. The display and the audio voice are in English (which tells you where and when to turn). The company that supplies the Thai map software employs 150 full time workers, who are constantly updating the maps with landmarks, new hotels, even 7/11's. Every 3 or 6 months you plug the unit into a computer and it updates the maps. If you accidentally miss a turn it will politely inform you, then recalculate the best way to get back on course. He claims it makes driving anywhere in BKK a breeze.
