Iconic Thailand

Will be giving a talk in the future to an audience probably half of whom will not know the difference between Thailand and Taiwan, So would like to give a few images of Thailand that really "sum the place up" so to speak. So, what four images would you suggest to represent best "Thailand" (and as this will be a mixed audience, no go go bars!). No prizes, just kudo's to the best ideas.

How many pics you would want to show and how long the presentation can be?

Where I would start:

Wat Po.

BKK panorama pic, with all the skyscrapers.

Skytrain, MRT.

Pic of BKK traffic jam.

Motobikes at traffic light.

Tuk-tuks at their stand.

3 students on a motorbike (or whole family).

Khlong transport. Houses along the way, flowers they nurse.

A street from Khlongtoey slums.

Cracked footpaths.

A group of (female) students.

A pic from RCA with all the youngsters..

Close up - Emporium.

Pics of world class hotels.

A food court - Robinson, Lotus/Tesco or Foodland.

Street vendors. Smiling and cooking.

Traditional Thai massage.

Benjasiri park with aerobic masses exercising.

Skateboarders at the rink.

Something religous, perhaps the reclining buddah or an arial of one of the temples.

An arial shot of Bangkok contrasted with an arial shot of either a slum or a traditional countryside farm with buffalo etc.

A montage of people from the different areas of Thailand to show different facial characteristics and skin colour.

Thai food - the diversity and the staples.

Pictures from the interior contrasted with pictures of beaches, perhaps from the Andaman etc.

The inequalities between rich and poor. Robber Toxin and those he has deliberately disadvantaged.

mainly, some thought provoking images. Not just the beautiful side of Thailand.

Hi,

My choice would include:

1/ Grand Palace with buddist monks and uniformed school children and a japanese tour group in shot

2/ A street scene with tux tuxs, vendors, an overloaded motorcycle and a begger in shot.

3/ Klong scene with long tailed boats, waterside housing with kids swimming around and a water taxi in shot

4/ Hill tribe village with smilling locals in traditional clothes and an elephant in shot

If you are a realist however maybe Lower Suk at 5pm, a pic taken from a tall building showing the brown smog hanging over the city, nana parking lot 2am and that smoking turd next to the noodle vendor! ::

I'd go for the following:

- something related to religion (a picture outside a temple showing monks in saffron robes)

- a scene of a Thai family eating a Thai meal with various dishes.

- a scene from rural Thailand

- a picture of modern Bangkok, perhaps a cityscape or a busy street scene.

I think this would show various facets of the country and present it in positive light.

Cheers,

Stick
