carlton68 Posted September 15, 2004 Report Share Posted September 15, 2004 Hello soonmak, that is quite usual that the usesed memory is higher than the single processes you can see in the task manager. What is missing there is the 'file cache'. The 'file chache' uses up large amounts of physical memory currently unused by other programs. All reading and writing of files in Win NT, 2000 and XP is routet through the file chache. So the difference you experience is accounted for. A bit misleading is that it is not documented anywhere how big the file cache actually is. One nice page regarding RAM is here And svchost is always there several times I think.
