According to a Norwegian newspaper, Arsene Wenger has gone out vs. the descision to call off the game.

He referrred to L'pool-Juve, when the match was played after 39 people died. The game was played because of fear for more riots. Wenger also said its a disgrace to call of a match because a referee gets a cut, and that descision could have caused riots outside the stadium.

Got to say I agree 100%, there is stuff seriously wrong here.

Very true Bibblies. The Turks are to stage the champion leagues final :o They have a violent history, and never get banned.

2 Leeds supporters were killed in Turkey, there were enough signals before the match that this would happen. They even had the nerve of trying to get the return match played away from Elland Road! No punishment, and the criminals have gotten reduced sentence when the media interest died away. I am pretty sure that we would have beaten the Turks if this did not happen. You can not expect a team to perform after such a tragic event. The Turks went on to riot in Europe, winning the trophy.

The English have handled hooligans excellent, there is very few cases these days. Your comment about Italians reminds me of a stabbing there also, as Leeds played the very same club as we discuss here.

He's very right. Of course it's a nasty incident, but it seems that this ref took things personal when he made the decision to stop the game. A very poor decision from a professional point of view.

This whole ROMA incident seems to have raised a lot of questions. Interesting to see how this is going to be dealt with.

Dynamo handed victory

Tuesday, 21 September 2004

The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body have decided that AS Roma's opening UEFA Champions League Group B match against FC Dynamo Kyiv will be awarded as a 0-3 forfeit victory to the Ukrainian side and that the Roma club will play their other two group stage home games behind closed doors after the abandonment of the original fixture last Wednesday.

Serious incident

Referee Anders Frisk was struck by a missile thrown from the stands and injured as the game reached half-time, and the match was eventually called off. In taking the decision the Control and Disciplinary Body took into account the seriousness of the nature of the incident.

Mexes ban

Roma?s matches at the Stadio Olimpico against Bayer 04 Leverkusen on 3 November and against Real Madrid CF on 8 December are the games to be played without spectators, while Roma player Philippe Mexes has been suspended for two matches for particularly unsporting conduct in the fixture, keeping him out of the trips to Madrid on 28 September and Leverkusen on 19 October.

Appeal deadline

Any appeal against the decisions of the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body must be made by Friday 24 September midnight CET at the latest.

What happens in Holland, and hopefully elsewhere too, is that the club in question tries to find out who did (does) such things and give them a lifelong ban.

They're put on a list and aren't allowed to enter the stadium. That's a start. Next thing they should do is exchange 'the stadium' for ANY STADIUM IN THE WORLD! Now that would help.
