Marriott Resort & Spa Bangkok

Hmm seems like I am the only one who is not too taken with this hotel.

Biggest problem for me is location. To get a taxi into Sukhumvit, you should count on minimum of 40 minutes, often much longer during rush hours as its the other side of the CP river. The boat ride is great but can become a bit tedious and particularly if your hooked up with a bar girl looking like she just came out of an Anglewitch show :o as for at least 15 minutes all the middle aged husband and wife tourists are staring at you due to the design of the seats in the old rice barges they use for transport (i.e for the most part everyone sits around the edge of the boat and you all look in )

Personally I found the breakfast whilst substantial seemed chaotic and inconsistent. May not have helped that a army of 'group tourists' descended on the breakfast room just before me and meant long queues for everything and many things kept running out.

The grounds of the hotel though are really great as is Benihana which I think serves great food and Thai girls love it.

Finally its not really in the same league as the Shangri-la by any stretch of the imagination which is far better for business travellers but if you can content with the location, the property is fine and represents good value for the price.

Cheers

Agreed Steve.

Not a hotel to stay at if you plan on partying in Sukhumvit or want to spend the day lounging about with your tattoo-painted BG.

I had a couple of issues staying at this hotel last year - some impolite staff who asked my folks to move from the unsigned "CLub" seating area in reception when there was not a soul around, and the stench coming from the klong that runs through the hotel (unavoidable if you have to walk from reception to another wing). However, manager was more than helpful and gave us all a nice suite upgrade. May have sorted these things out now, but if you can get prices as mentioned through Priceline...jump at it.

I'd recommend the Mayfair Marriott apartments on Langsuan too for the room quality and the friendliness of the staff - they all go up to the pool bar on the top floor after work to have a few beers and socialise! For internet I always just plug the laptop into the room's telephone socket, buy a KSC card and pay local rates. It's not lightening fast, but it's acceptable.

Well, what can I say? The Marriot Resort and Spa - very nice. Except that I'm not.

Some real wankers staying there (apart from me); braying upper class tossers over for a wedding; aircrew who still think that us mortals are gonna be impressed by the uniform...

Saw one of the Royal Princesses though, down on the jetty when I was floating me kratong that I'd brought up from the sticks 'special, a veritable dreadnought of a kratong, sparklers, hair and wish for world peace all sitting on a slice of banana tree. None of yer pissy bits of polystyrene for moi. ("Call that a kratong? THIS is a kratong).

Fuck me - 220 baht for a small Heineken! LOL!

Twatsville.

Gimme the Dynasty anyday.

(Belches, farts and fucks off...)
