Anybody know whats happening to what was I think going to be the Sofitel Hotel on the River. There is repair working happening, I heard that it was structural unsafe.

It is now going to open as a Millennium Hilton.

 

Hilton Plans Further Development In Thailand

 

Bangkok, Thailand Hilton International and Krungthep Rimnam Limited signed an agreement for Hilton to manage the Millennium Hilton Bangkok. The 542-room, ultra-contemporary property will be located along the banks of Bangkoks Chao Phraya River and designed by Australia-based BARstudio (under the guidance of globally renowned interior designer, Tony Chi). The hotel is scheduled to open in late 2005.

 

The hotel will feature two ballrooms (500- and 250-seat capacity), a dedicated Hilton meetings floor for the corporate and incentive markets, a choice of three themed restaurants, a health club and a full-service spa.

 

"We will make Millennium Hilton Bangkok one of the city's landmark entertainment and dining spots that guests and residents will gravitate to," says Koos Klein, president, Hilton International, Middle East and Asia Pacific. "We will introduce London's hippest, and Hilton's award-winning Zeta Bar concept to Thailand and a second imaginatively decorated bar with panoramic river views from the 32nd floor."

In addition, the Millennium Hilton Bangkok is set to open in mid 2005. This 542 ultra contemporary property is believed to be the last high-rise hotel to open along the banks of Bangkok's Chao Phraya river, following a change this year in zoning laws. All rooms will offer sweeping river views, with vistas of the Emerald Buddha to the north and a Bangkok city panorama to the South.
