iuytrede Posted February 2, 2005 Report Share Posted February 2, 2005 Beach umbrellas are back - they are so ugly! They cover all of Kata - Karon - Patong. It is a shame. It is saddening to see how humans spoil the beauty of Phukets nature. I will leave Phuket soon, and I don't think I will come back. I am not going to visit a beach covered with umbrellas. So sad. BTW tourist are trickling back, some places are 80% full (the place I am staying has 25 rooms and an occupancy rate of 4 % :. Many of the big hotels are closed and won't reopen any time soon. The whole island has been a construction site anyway, after the Tsunami even more so. Some places actually made more money this season (from all those donations for the rescue of resorts) than they would have made without the Tsunami.
