butterfly
I'm finally going to make the move from Bangkok to Pattaya. A long story. Anyway my biggest concern is changing from Bumrungrad to a Pattaya hospital. Yes, lot's of dated info on the board but I am looking for any updates on what hospital to have a relationship with in Pattaya.
SingaporeSteve
something run of the mill i'd use Pattaya International over all the other hospitals. For anything serious, I'd be heading straight up the motorway to Bumrungrad - they only charge 1500 baht for the ambulance to come from BKK and take you back and are normally there within 2 hours. I and many other long term expats would rather go to BKK than go to a local hospital. Bangkok Pattaya Hospital is in my opinion a rip off wih many sub standard doctors and higher prices than Bumrungrad for far lower quality of doctor and healthcare. Nothing scientific in that analysis other than personal examples of mis-diagnosis and almost everybody I talk to has had problems there including poor diabetes knowledge, lasik eye surgery problems up to heart treatment errors. Personally I have never come across anybody that has these problems with the doctors at Bumrungrad. Also I am not aware of ANY 'teaching' doctors working in Pattaya - Bumrungrad has stacks of them working primarily at Chula medical school - similar to a teaching hospital in say the UK where generally the level of knowledge of the top doctors is way higher than in a smaller provincial hospital. If your British think of a Guys or Royal Marsden hospital versus High Wycombe General - the professors are at Guys and Royal Marsden. Then imagine it this way, if your a top flight Thai doctor where would you aspire to work? Then you have your answer and in my book it aint Pattaya. Pattaya International is slightly different in that its privately owned by a very very good surgeon and most of the specialists are actually working for the highly regarded military hospital at Sattahip.
