Favorite Photo Locations?

Newbie arriving in September also hoping to do a lot of photography while in Bangkok prior to Angkor Wat trip.

Any suggestions for good photo locations to visit during the day?

Suggestions for Bangkok scenic shots? Great sunset shots?

River locations for photos?

City shots from Baiyoke II tower? Is it glassed in? Any good locations or vantage points that are photographer friendly?

Open to ideas and suggestions.

Thanks-

The number of locations for taking photos is unnumerous - at least in my opinion. Of course you can climb up some towers (all that I know are glassed but you can use a pol. filter if neccessary) but the real life you will get on the streets.

Just take your camera with a 24-28 mm lens, a handful of films (or a digicam which is a bit slower but very handy in some occasions) and stroll around, go to the places where people are, like marktes etc. In most cases it is rather helpful to make (eye)contact with the people before you take a photo. Thais are not shy in that sense. And communicating with them is not only a way to see and learn a lot of a country but you can also get a deeper insight in the daily life of the people. Especially when it is the first time in a country which makes this opportunity really unique.

Enjoy your trip

* Wat Arun at dusk from the opposite river bank

* Wat Phra Kaew (though it'll be difficult not to have tourists walking through your pix all the time)

* Lak Muang (City Pillar, surrounded by magnificent prayer room)

* Wat Saket or Phukhao Thong, afternoon, from Ratchadamnoen Klang

* The bizarrely-shaped Lohaprasad opp. Wat Saket

* The 41 m high Buddha of Wat Indraviharn (bring at least a 20 mm wide-angle lens!)

* The Sleeping Budda of Wat Po (super-wide-angle again)

* The phallus shrine behind Hilton Hotel

* Thai dancers at Erawan Shrine

* Wat Benchamapobit, the "Marble Temple"

* Chinatown at night (Charoen Krung Rd.)

* Pak Klong Talaat (flower and veg. market)

* Shops selling Buddhas, big and small, at Bamrung Muang Rd., near Wat Saket

* Klong tour on the Thonburi side

* Pretty girls in Siam Square

Gosh, I could go on for an hour. Avoid Baiyoke 2, as it's too high to see anything. Good for a view but no use for photography.
