elef
Water shortages in Pattaya Published on Apr 29 , 2005 Pattaya is facing a water crisis which could severly affect its tourism industry, local officials and MPs warned Friday. Chonburi Governor Phisit Ketphasuk, led a team of officials today, including Pattaya Mayor Niran Wattanasatsatorn to view water levels in the nearby Mab Prachan Reservoir, and said that if water was released at normal levels, there would only be adequate water to last until the end of May. He warned that this would severely hurt Pattaya's vibrant tourism industry. According to local MP Chanyuth Engtrakul, the water shortages are not only affecting Pattaya, but include several surrounding administrative districts. Also seeking medium and long-term solutions for the drought, Chanyuth said that an urgent solution would be to reduce the flow of water to industrial estates and divert it into the piped water system for local residents. He also mentioned artificial rain to cover the five local reservoirs, while pledging to pressure the government to invest in long-term measures to solve Pattaya's water crisis.
