Public Health

As anyone who has been to LOS knows, the public health and safety processes are pretty primitive. Between gaping holes in the sidewalks, unmarked hazards at eye level and little if any monitoring of food preparation. Am I wrong?

A few weeks ago I saw a post saying watermelons were treated with bad food dyes and those in the know would never eat them. That's sad because they are cheap and delicious and I stopped eating them after that.

Can somebody tell me what other foods are suspect besides the fried bugs which are killed with insecticides?

A small thing too, but curious: The barbeque vendors all sprinkle something from a small brown jar onto the food. It tastes good, but is it MSG?

Thanks in advance,

Zane
