Not sure where to post this so mods feel free to move.

Time for my visa run from pattaya and looking to incorporate some sanuking pleasure into it. I see posts about Phnom Penh but how about near the border closer to pattaya? Can anybody forward me some advice, counsel, verbal abuse, etc. on where they would go for their visa run out of PTY?

As always thanks in advance.

Sorry ND, but that gameplan is still only in th hopeful concept stage. But we're still happy to look after those that get here to PP from Bkk.

Quickest from Pattaya is the bus to Poipet and return same day.

Second the bus to Poipet.

A few hours watching a movie, buffet lunch at one of the casinos which varies from great to mediocre, then another movie on the ride back.

Immigration officials on the Thai side usually just take the passports from the guide and then you walk through to make sure the photos match.

Cambodian side usually a wait in line while they try to make the facial recognition software work.

Thank you for the bus to Poipet advice.

Sooooo if I take a bus to Poipet is there sanuk available (ladies)? If so is it worth spending a night or two there? How about areas near Poipet to visit?

What I am thinking is combining the visa run into a mini trip? Is it viable with Poipet as the entrance point?

any other advice, warnings, soap boxed opinions, etc are welcomed.

Well it is SE Asia so there is ALWAYS sanuk available. But Poipet is NOT a destination for it. If you want a destination, come to Phnom Penh and experience Thailand 20 years ago.

President Air does a package for $150 return and stay at my hotel.

Try Koh Kong in Cambodia.

Local bus 6am and 11am Pattaya to Trat (120 baht) from the corner of Pattaya central (Klang) road and Sukhumvit, then minibus every 20 minutes from Trat (just opposite from where you get off the bus from Pattaya) to border(100 baht). Motorbike taxi to guest house in Koh Kong (50 baht). Some agencies do minibus runs if you don't want to do it yourself. Border closes 5pm - so make an early start (some websites say 8pm ??). Return buses to Pattaya leave Trat 9:30am, 12 noon, and last one at 3pm. To Bangkok more frequent and later departures, although you could get a later Pattaya connection if you get off a Bangkok bound bus at Chonburi or Klaeng.

Can use Thai baht in Koh Kong... no need for US$ or reals. The transport details can be found following the links at www.pattaycity.com Also www.talesofasia.com very useful info too.

1100 baht for Cambodian visa (take photos). Ignore them if they ask for 100 baht for useless health form... it's a scam.

Cheap Guesthouses Otto's and Moto Bar. There are better places, but I can't remember the names. Good western food at Moto's. Douglas, the larger than life Kiwi owner of Moto's will show you the ropes, (..and handcuffs, whips, and leather gear! :)) if he's still alive... he loves his grog!

I would have to say skip the Poipet part if you are looking for more than just a freesh visa stamp.

Cannot really comment on other areas of Cambodia except Phnom Penh.

Poipet is just too depressing for me. Of all the other people I know who have looked around not one has really liked it.

I am sure there is play for pay available- even is at one of the casinos so you could technically skip the buffet and do other things for the hour or so.

The reports on other areas of Cambodia are much more positive so I assume that the casinos are what make Poipet different from a fun point of view.

Poipet has casinos .... almost all Thais as customers. Helps to speak some Thai ... hotel guys will bug the crap out of you about wanting ladies.

*BUT* be careful in Poipet as my friend was almost robbed at gun point.

Very easy to do same day exit/re-entry.

Near the Trat border, my Australain friend tried same day exit/re-entry and Cambodian immigration guys tried to shake him down for more than 100 baht (few thousand baht). They went as far as taking him to a room and slapping him around a bit (more for fear than physical harm) ... emptied his wallet (less than few thousand baht).

Well once again the NP forum is a bad influence. It looks like a RT ticket to PP should be the way to go for my visa stamp and Sanuk.

I will read the other posts in the regional sanuk section on PP to get an idea of things. I am hoping all I need to know is in there. If not, can anybody give me the 101 on PP? See I have to ( as my usual procrastination dictates) leave in 4 days for the visa renewal so once again I am in need of your help. How about the travel basics in PP. Ie are there ATM machines, can I utilize thai Baht as local currency, etc basically what is the most efficient way for aquiring and dealing with cash in PP? What about places to hit other than Sharkeys and Martinis? Places to stay etc.

Laoloui(sp) what is the name of your hotel when I am in PP? Is your hotel basic or 5 star accomodation?

As always a tip of the glass and cap to you all.
