drogon
Greetings Does someone know where I could find this kind of spectacle? I mean a "real one" let's say by an official ballet company not a display for hordes of tourists? Thanks for your answers
thai3
Not much of a response so I'll do me best. There are 2 main types of trad dancing. One is khon with men and women can go on for hours and depicts religious themes such as the Ramayana or Buddha stories. Lakhan is much less formal and the good news is only girls and a lot shorter, often seen at festivals and shrines. There is a well know (tourist) restaurant off sukhumvit around soi 35 I think, forget the name where they have dance shows, or National Theater and the Royal Chalermkrung Theater in Bangkok for more formal shows. Can see the dancers for free at the Erawan shrine. Ask TAT places in LOS.I'm assuming you meant classical dance -peter

thai3
The TAT booths you see around bkk can be helpfull. I once asked one on suk near 11 for luktung concert, they came up with a big show at the thai cultural centre rachada which is a fantastic looking place. Got in for free, only foriegner there and they did everything from lukrung-morlam, string, likkay, luktung and classical dance. Memorable night, even had appaporn and nok pornpana-peter
pattaya127
Check out the BKK post OUTLOOK section, when you get there. The HORIZON section, on friday or thursday also has plenty of infos about that type of thing. remember that tourism is not only farangs, but thais too. So, just because it's advertised in a tourist rubrique may not mean you will end up seating next to a full bus of euro, chinese or japanese tourists The national theater, still gives twice a week a performance by students. I think the quality of it makes no difference if the audience is farang mostly. I think you meant restaurant type dancing. In a way, it's thanks to tourism that these Arts have been kept alive for all to enjoy, because otherwise, it would slowly get lost, just the patronage of his majesties would not suffice. Thais are kinda going thru a revival of some aspects of their Arts and culture, but they almost do it with the same kind of curiosity a tourist would have. Not as something intrinsec to their identity as 21st c. thais. Kinda.....
