Healthcare & kids in Thailand?

Guest

Recommended Posts

My husband and I are considering moving to Thailand (not sure wich part yet) permanently.

How good quality is the healthcare there? If something major happens that requires surgery or other treatment would we be better advised going back to Europe/US to have it done? What about emergencies or giving birth in a Thai hospital?

Does anyone have experiences with any of this, or know of anyone who has given birth in Thailand?

Thankful for any input.

Presuming that you not intend to relocate to a rural area, the healthcare in the cities throughout Thailand are reasonable to good although for very specific cases and diseases, I think that you will have to rely on specialist hospitals in Bangkok. As for common issues such as delivery of babies, any hospital throughout the country would be fine, although language may become a barrier in some parts of the country.

Hope this answer,

I find healthcare in private hospitals in Thailand to be excellent..... as long as you have the money or the insurance to pay for them. The quality is excellent and the cost to be very reasonable.

I tried Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok and I find them to be 5 stars and is the best hospital in Thailand. In Pattaya, I find Bangkok-Pattaya Hospital to be the best in that area. Both places spoke English and provided good services. Only thing I dislike about both places is the cost associated for being a farang. They charged me more than the Thais only because I'm a foreigner in their country. Double pricing is not limited to shopping.

You can try www.ethailand.com and www.bupathailand.com for more information.

All my experiences of Thai hospitals have been positive, though as I have good medical insurance I have generally only used the top of the range facilities at Bumrungrad, Samitivej, Thai Nakarin and Sikarin in Bangkok, and Pattaya Memorial and Pattaya International in Pattaya. Language hasn't been a problem in any of these (and my Thai is virtually non-existent). Travelling around Thailand I have seen many similar looking establishments in all of the major towns and cities and taken people to one or two where having someone speaking Thai was a huge advantage, possibly essential in an emergency.

My own son was born in a Thai hospital, though a private one, which cost about 20% what the international one across the road would have. I was very happy with the service and facilities there. The delivery, with 2 nights in a private room, food, medicines etc came to about B14,000 though that was over 5 years ago.
