Bush expressed thanks for His Majesty the King's donations to Hurricane Katrina survivors and for Thailand's dispatch of emergency supplies, Foreign Minister Kantathi Suphamongkhon said. Mr Bush shared his gratitude in talks on Monday with Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Apart from the King sending 15 tonnes of rice to help those in need, Her Royal Highness Princess Sirindhorn will also donate sweet corn to the relief effort, said Thai ambassador Kasit Piromya. Mr Kantathi said the Mr Thaksin had approved US$80,000 [color:"red"]to help up to 200 Thai people[/color] affected by Katrina. Mr Kasit said the Thai embassy and consulates general in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York have also collected more than $20,000 from Thais living in the US [color:"red"]to help Thai victims[/color]. The embassy is coordinating with the Thai Association in Texas and Thai Physician Association-Southwest Chapter to compile a list and contact them, he said.
