MacBook

I am planning on upgrading my ibook to the new macbook with the new intel duo blah, blah, blah. Any revues available and also cost comparisons in LOS as I will be back around july and may hold off buying until I am over there.

a friend of mine just got one in the States and is extremely disappointed with it...a lot of his previous software will not work with it because versions that work with the new Intel chip do not exist yet...just a heads up

the old software will work via rosetta...but it's kinda like when you had osx installed but had to run your applications via classic os9.

i am going to wait until at least adobe catches up.

as a developer i do like the fact that i can have one machine running two operating systems, but until the software companies catch up i don't see the benefit.

I see your point buddha. Being a techo peasant a lot goes over my head when it comes to Computers. I send emails use word and excel edit with final cut express and need to open cad files. Should I wait...........oh and look at porn. ::

well...all of that will operate reasonably fast using rosetta....except final cut express. I am not 100% sure it will be slower than what you are using now, but you will not see the immediate increase of your processor speeds.

If you are editing short clips it will still probably see a speed increase, but nothing to rave about. I wouldn't want to be editing anything over a couple [say 5] minutes and relying on rosetta when rendering and/or capturing. The hated spinning pinwheel of death will be popping up constantly.

The good news is that while adobe lags behind apple should be quick about releasing a new version of FCE.

Personally I am going to dump my 4 year old p-book and grab an outdated regular i-book. ram and processor speed increase will make a huge difference wwith the software I currently have and they can be had for $999 USD
