I stayed at House By The Pond for 6 months a few years ago. It's ok, nothing fancy but priced right. Furniture was a bit dated. Getting to Suk is not much of a problem. Motorcycle taxi are on the corner of Soi 22 and I just waved them down.

I live near House By The Pond, and I know the neighborhood.

I've never stayed there, but I did go in for a look 'round and was shown a room.

I do NOT recommend it for visitors.

For long-stayers on a small budget such as bangsaenguy, maybe, but visitors to Bangkok, certainly not.

First, the name is tempting and the web site makes it look exotic.

Clever marketing ploy, that.

The lobby is, indeed, attractive, BUT, most of the rooms are in an ordinary, concrete, apartment block around back.

Those rooms are old, warn, and shabby.

For less money, there are countless rooms like that in Bangkok.

Second, and even more important, HBTP is NOT NEAR ANYTHING.

No restaurants.

No shops.

Not even a 7-11 convenience store.

Every time you walk out the front door you will be either taking a taxi or a motocy, or facing a 15-20 minute hike in the dripping humidity.

That includes walking to the subway or the skytrain.

And at night, the streets around that location are dark and empty.

Not dangerous, but certainly not pleasant.

Finally, HBTP is not on a main soi (street) and it is not near anything well-know.

Getting there requires some clever twists and turns down some back streets.

That means it will be difficult for taxi drivers to take you home.

Best to always carry the hotel card and a map in Thai.

Not all taxi drivers can read maps.

Some can not read Thai very well either.

The web site is very alluring, but the property is not.

I see no reason to recommend HBTP.

For around 1,000 baht in this neighborhood there are plenty of other, far better, choices.

I like lakepoint.

BTW, did you ever try the massage at Lakepoint? Do they offer xtras? If so, what kind?
