From Pattaya City News:

Bangkok Police Launch Sweep of Pattaya Bars.

On Thursday evening a squad of 70 Bangkok-based police decided it was time they had a little sojourn into the fleshpots of Pattaya and spent some hours wandering about the various beer bar complexes and go-go bars as well as a couple of the more infamous soapy massage joints. Accompanied by a frothing gaggle of media hacks, all armed with television cameras as well as the latest in still digital cameras, the upstanding men and women of the Bangkok police force visited the Sabailand Massage Parlour on Second Road, at the corner of Soi 3 if any of you are not quite sure where to find it. Here they interviewed a number of the more attractive and younger looking girls, asking them to produce their Identification cards in order to prove that they were all over the legal age to engage in activities involving water, soap and excitable men.

Satisfied with this, the police troop then moved onto a number of beer bars in the Soi 2 area and once again were compelled to chat with the more attractive and younger looking girls, checking identification cards and asking about the health and well-being of sundry family members and farmyard stock.

Then it was into a couple of the go-go bars where many members of the media were excited to find a large number of ladies who were wearing g-string bikinis. The flashbulbs of the cameras in the media scrum helped to really light up the dressing rooms and general area of the chrome pole palaces while the very professional police persons asked the girls to produce their ID cards. Most of the girls were forced to go into their lockers in order to show the plastic cards, explaining it was difficult to keep the card on their person when dressed in not much more than a pair of boots and a smile.

A senior policemen told one bar owner that the 2:00AM closing time should be enforced and that staying open later than this is against the law. The bar owner allegedly told the policeman that he paid a little extra money each month in order to stay open later, but the Bangkok officer said whoever he paid the money to it couldnâ??t possibly be a genuine member of the constabulary, as this sort of thing was frowned upon. He warned the bar owner to be wary of mafia types who tried to pass themselves off as policemen in order to extort money from law-abiding citizens.

Brilliant! :elephant::chili::yay:

Some good sarcasm in the Pattaya news lately, here are some excerpts:

Foreigner Dies in Sleep:

...According to his 40 year old Thai wife, Mr Yaans was suffering from high blood pressure but neither he nor she were overly concerned at this physical state of his health. She told investigators she had gone out for a short time and when she returned found her husband in the marital bed but exhibiting no signs of life.

Legal Training Seminar:

It will probably come as a great surprise to many viewers that Thai people have little or no knowledge of the law...

Yabba Dealer Nabbed:

Police ... arrested a 22 year old Thai man after allegedly discovering him in possession of 1,000 ya bah tablets.... Police say that the amount he was found with on this occasion suggests it wasnâ??t for his own personal use only...

What a great country, the Pattaya police are so infamously corrupt that the Bangkok police have to come down even for the most meaningless public relations gestures... Looking forward to my early return!

They were actually there at the expense of "PRADA" and "GUCCI".

Their mission was to search all the vendors and retail stores along Beach Rd and Second Rd from Nakula to Walking Street for those specific brands of counterfeit goods; they were accompanied by representitives from both companies. According to the local press, about B500,000 worth of goods were siezed and numerous shopowners (or more probably, hapless clerks) hauled to the Soi 9 station where they were "processed"

I was able to watch for a while from the beach. At first, all the local damsels on display made themselves scarce, but as soon as it became obvious that the cops only interest was to video a few of them, they got right back to business.

The cops would stop at each shop and make a big show for the cameras; pointing to handbags the same way they usually do to rapists and gold chain grabbers.

I'm sure the big vendors, especially the ones in places like MIKES MALL were forewarned and got their goods off the shelves because the police were in and out of there in short order.

Better buy all your cheap shit now, guys; the western world is hell bent to make Thailand just as ridiculously expensive. The future global economy must depend on $500 handbags.

Oh, by the way: about three hours later that same night, a major gang fight erupted on the beach, some pretty savage shit really---no cops bothered to show up for that.

I know the lady who is the biggest vendor of pirated Louis Vuiton, Gucci and so on in Pattaya, she's not near Beach Rd btw. The copy police in Pattaya is corrupt so they always send policemen from BKK to check - normally one night every week. And yes, that night she never opens her business, she's informed already the day before or latest in the morning the same day.

My usual supplier of DVDs has been away for one year now, his wife run the business for almost one year but now she's also on vacation and a young man is selling the DVDs. He doesn't speak any english except hundredtwenty and hundred...

Guest HonoluluJimmy

that is odd. Sure there have been ups and downs of the knock offs in Patong but since the Tsunami the door seems to be wide open. there still are some "secret rooms" etc but there is plenty of stuff in the open with a good selection at good prices.

I actually know one shopping mall in BKK where 2 shops openly sell very good pirated Louis Vuiton and Gucci products. The quality is so good that the products must originate from the same factories as the originals, and the prices are lower than in Patpong and Pattaya for lower qualities.
