Wonder if his passport was stamped when he left BKK? If he was even allowed to keep the passport?

Did he pay the 500 baht departure tax ? :grinyes:

Bada  Bing

Maybe he came up with the whole 'i killed the girl' story so that he could leave Thailand quickly, avoiding the new 700 baht departure tax? Bet he was surprised he got his flight upgraded as part of the package.

In California, he was convicted on 5 charges of child porn in absentia after he had disappeared.

http://www.contracostatimes.com/mld/cctimes/news/local/states/california/15293715.htm

"In truth, John Karr was being held in 2001 while awaiting trial for five counts of child pornography, said Sgt. Rob Giordano, spokesman for the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department. When he finally was released on bond, he disappeared and was convicted in absentia."

The legal process regarding Karr has been confusing for the media and readers who are not attorneys.

It was first reported that Karr was charged with the murder of the Ramsey child, then the Boulder DA stated they simply issued an arrest warrant for the murder, but never filed formal murder charges. I had always assumed formal charges preceded issuance of an arrest warrant.

In addition, there are conflicting stories stating Karr was convicted in absentia in California for the child porn charges (5 counts), then many other news articles saying Karr was arrested and charged with these counts (for which he plead not guilty), but never convicted.

Per http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/la-na-karr29aug29,0,7439087.story?track=mostviewed-homepage

". . . Karr, 41, still faces five misdemeanor counts of possessing child pornography in California in a Sonoma County case that dates to 2001. An extradition hearing is scheduled for this afternoon.

If convicted on all five counts, Karr could face a one-year sentence. But he could also walk free on time served if he got credit for the six months he spent in jail in California after his arrest."

If he has been convicted, why would Sonoma County put Karr on trial again for these charges?

Lawyers can f#*k up a stroll in the park.
