Northern Thai

Recommended Posts

ok, there is Lanna on Sukhumvit Soi 38, but that's quite upmarket and expensive..

the one on Suk Soi 22 opposite Queens Park beer bars has turned into a normal Thai restaurant and Hualampong food station has more Isaan than Northern dishes...

so where to find a good and reasonable restaurant in Bangkok for northern dishes?

thanks!

What would be considered Northern dishes?

some examples of northern dishes, starting with the well known first

sai ua changmai sausages

khao soy yellow noodles with chickencurry

nam prik num and nam prik ong (green spicy paste and spicy paste with tomatoes and pork)

laab djin (slightly different from the isaan one; they cook without water so it is more dry)

gaeng hanglee thick pork curry with ginger and garlic

gaeng ho spicy curry with glass noodles

gaeng khae spicy curry with many vegetables

khanom djin nam nioaw rice noodles with pork blood and chicken feet

there are probably many others...

...and "lop moo dip" (spelled just like it sounds) which is a favorite of mine; raw pork and amazingly good. Northern dishes typically are had with sticky rice which is another plus to me. Yeah, Northern cuisine restaurants in Bangkok, keep 'em coming!
