elef Posted January 22, 2007 Report Share Posted January 22, 2007 Bangkok Post Today Link Thai exports up 16.9% last year Bangkok (dpa) - Thailand's exports last year reached 129.7 billion dollars, up 16.9 per cent compared with 2005, leaving the kingdom with a trade surplus of 2.9 billion, the Commerce Ministry announced Monday. Imports last year amounted to 126.8 billion dollars, up 7.3 per cent. Commerce Ministry permanent secretary Karun Kittisataporn acknowledged that 2006's robust export performance had still failed to meet the government's target of achieving a 17.5 per cent increase. Thailand exports in December were 10.9 billion, up 16.5 per cent compared year-on-year but down 7.7 per cent if compared with exports in November 2006, according to the ministry's data. Thailand's leading exports include industrial items such as electronics, electrical appliances and automobiles and various agricultural products such as rubber and rice.
