The vile beast was sure his three-year sentence would be slashed by half and he would be back on the streets by May. But the shamed star was left in despair after it was cut by just three months, leaving the monster locked up until August 2008. Glitter, 62, took the news so badly, he was placed on immediate suicide watch at the notorious Thu Duc detention centre. An insider said: â??He was sure he would be out in months and made plans for his release. â??Now all that hope has been snatched away. He is crushed.â? The court cut Glitterâ??s time as part of a traditional Vietnamese amnesty to celebrate the lunar new year â?? the countryâ??s biggest national holiday â?? but lawyer Le Thanh Kinh said Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, will get other chances to slash his sentence. He said: â??My client has been given a three-month reduction. However, he will have four more chances to reduce his sentence between now and August 2008.â? Child protection campaigners have slammed the decision. Ecpat UKâ??s Christine Beddoe said: â??We are disappointed. He should serve the fullest sentence to protect children in Vietnam and the rest of the world. â??The Government must deport him the minute he is freed and he should be placed on the Sex Offendersâ?? It's as much an obsession as a way of sexual relief, but then pedophilia is like rape; power and control outweigh the sexual considerations.
