thefezman
Read somewhere that these 2 sois are experiencing some building work and are therefore quiet and half closed. Is this true?? God forbid....
TroyinEwa/Perv
I was in soi 7 yesterday, feb 14th and didn't notice anything. Could have been the beer goggles but nothing that seemed to be closed because of construction.
eyebee
A new Eastiny Hotel is currently being built in soi 8, and a number of bars were pulled down (including the Shark Bar and the Mosquito Bar), but life in soi 8 goes on as before. Nothing big being built in soi 7, but it seems very quiet.
Sukhumvit
In between Soi 9 and 10 there's massive construction work going on. A huge new shopping mall due to open in 2009 and View Talay Condo which is 'kin ginormous.
Belem
A new Eastiny Hotel is currently being built in soi 8, and a number of bars were pulled down (including the Shark Bar and the Mosquito Bar), but life in soi 8 goes on as before. Nothing big being built in soi 7, but it seems very quiet. Bars next to and going down the side of Flipper House, Didi bar at the front on Soi 7 have had notice to quit by end of March as the hotel is being extended. Hardy641
Will be interesting to see whether all these new hotels will be profitable when most of the bars, which after are main reason visitors like to stay there, are gone. On the other hand business is very slow these days, few girls and even fewer customers. Just a few couple of years ago Soi 7, 8 and 9 has been the busiest part of Pattaya after WS. The decline here is another prove for me that the days of beer bars are numbered. They just can't find decent looking girls who are willing to work 12h a day 28 days a month for 2500 THB. elef
Opposite IMO, these hotels will be filled asian and russian tourists who are not interested in bars. More and more think that within 5 years there will be nothing of beerbars and gogos west of 2nd Rd and also WS gone. The nightlife scene already has started to move to 3rd Rd. Hardy641
You might be right too, but honestly I pray you are wrong. I don't know the social background of the hordes of russians flooding Walking Street these days but they are definitely not the people I like to see in masses in Pattaya. elef
They have a lot of money they spend on shopping, check the banner over the entrance to the parking in Mike Shopping Mall, it has been in russian for a year now. That's the quality tourists the thai governments wants. The former german colony in Naklua is now outnumbered and most restaurants have added russian as a 4th language on the menus. They say that russians buy more than 50 % of condos for sale now. There're real estate agencies just speaking thai and russian, a russian newspaper, TV-programs in russian on the local channel. Eating german food and drinking water, coming with a young wife (men 40-50 and wifes 18-25).
