Barry
Some British people will happily express regret at the actions of the empire, especially people of a more left leaning bent, but I think a big part why it's rare is that at the time there was only really pro empire propaganda and people still believe it. The hooligans were more likely the descendents of the lower class people that were given uniforms and muskets and sent to terrorise foreigners. I say "were" because it's largely died out now. Guest
Foreigner, many people view the British empire with disdain AND they are english.....you seem to have a slightly warped view... So as i am english, just for you.... "yeah, we f'ed up globaly. in Palestine, in Iraq, in Afghanistan, in Burma, in Kashmir." much less ireland So, there you go... I think the british empire was an enormous lost opportunity...something amazing could've been achieved, as it was, we fucked up globally, to resurrect your phrase. foreigner
>british empire was an enormous lost opportunity< my point! hegemony at it best if they could only be more like "us" all would be better. if only we could only have "Thai" lasses more like brit birds or american cows .. think how much we could save on travel expenses. + fish & chips or horrible pies from the food carts.. & vietnam would be perfect with more evangelicals. hegemonist do not even realize what they strive do. i wish the Thai had a better hegemony plan .. more smiles at a pattaya murder scene than at a comedy club in my home town.
