Patong bar owner raped and murdered

PHUKET TOWN: The body of Pranorm Anuan, owner of the Shark Otto Bar in Soi Eric, Patong, was found in an old tin mine north of the Tesco-Lotus Supercenter early on Saturday morning.

A villager who was jogging in the area found the body and notified the police around 6:20 am.

When found, 24-year-old Pranorm was wearing black boots and a red T-shirt bearing the bar’s logo. She was clutching white underpants and a brassi่re that police believe were hers.

Pol Lt Khaneung Pitakkullatorn told the Gazette that K. Pranorm had been beaten about the head and face and there was evidence that she had been raped repeatedly. At the scene, about 40 meters from her body, police found many sets of footprints, four pornographic magazines smeared with blood, and about 10 tubes of glue.

Her body was taken to Wachira Phuket Hospital where it was identified by her husband, Tony Koran, 40, from the Netherlands, and some employees of the bar.

Bar staff told the police that they last saw her alive when she left the bar the night before at closing time, about 4 am. She drove away on a blue Honda Wave motorbike without saying where she was going. K. Pranorm’s motorbike, mobile phone and gold necklace were not found at the scene.

Police believe that the murderer knew the victim and lured her to the old mine where about 10 others were already waiting. They theorize that when she tried to run away, she was pursued, raped and then beaten to death.

Her body has been taken to her family home in Nakhon Ratchasima where her funeral will take place.

Absolutely sickening. I fear Phuket is getting a bit of a reputation for murder. Recently, there has been a spate of gruesome murders in the harbour area, I think over a dozen over the last year (the Phuket Gazette has the exact figure somewhere). The murders were almost excusively committed by fishermen on their own ilk (mostly Burmese), but that doesn't make them any less reprehensible. I also know of some robberies on farang on some lonely stretches along the coast; the cases were never reported.

Scum,

I suspect these fishermen murders are the same guy or guys as the weapon used is always a steel reinforced bar. The type of bar used in concrete construction. The victims are always repeatedly stabbed around 15 to 20 times or more. Seems to me to be the work of a serial killer who is on the loose. These murders have been happening regularly for a couple of years now.

The area these murders are happening in is a place on the out skirts of Phuket town were no farangs are hanging around as it is a real dodgy area to be in at night time.

Those killed so far have mostly been Burmese fishermen so its not high on the list of cases to solve unfortunately. So far I believe there have been about 26 victims.

They caught the low bastards,

below copied from the Phuket gazette,

PHUKET TOWN: Thanks to a combination of sheer good luck and one officer's good memory, police have arrested Taweewut Saeton, 31, and two minors aged 15 and 16 in connection with the rape and murder on Saturday of Pranorm Anuan, 24, the owner of the Shark Otto Bar in Soi Eric, Patong.

Taweewut and one of the minors are from Phuket, while the other minor is from Ranong.

The three were arrested in a house near Phuket Country Home in Chalong, where police found two gold necklaces, a .38-caliber handgun with 95 bullets, a motorbike and 3,000 baht in cash.

Pol Lt Sommai Oncom, of Phuket Town Police Station, who was following up on an unrelated crime, went to the house intending to arrest someone else who, he discovered, no longer lived there.

Once there, however, he recognized the names of the three at the house, who were wanted by the police for a robbery in Moo Baan Jomtong on Kwang Rd.

The two minors, he also knew, were wanted for questioning after being filmed by a security camera while selling K. Pranorm’s necklace at the Kittiporn gold shop in Phuket Town. The shop is opposite the Pearl Hotel on Montri Rd.

While being questioned at Phuket Town police station, the three confessed to being involved in the rape and murder of K. Pranorm, as well as 15 other crimes.

The two minors told police that, early on Saturday morning, they were riding around on a motorbike looking for a victim to rob. K. Pranorm rode past and they noticed that she had a bag with her that was likely to contain cash.

They gave chase and forced her off the road on Luang Pho Wat Chalong Rd, near the Phuket Bus Station. They then forced her at gunpoint to ride to an old tin mine north of the Tesco-Lotus Superstore.

One of the minors admitted to robbing and raping her, and to shooting her.

An autopsy performed at Wachira Phuket Hospital revealed that Pranorm had been shot in the back of the head, a fact originally missed by investigating officers due to the extent of her injuries.

Taweewut, who lived in the same house as the minors, was charged with being an accessory to murder and receiving stolen goods. One of the minors was charged with robbery, rape and murder, while the other minor was charged with robbery and being an accessory to murder.

The trio are expected to be charged with additional offenses as the investigation proceeds

Of course this was a terrible incident and has come to our attention since it was written in an English paper. I have just returned from Thailand and from reading the Thai papers everyday was shocked to to see just how many murders, rapes and other terrible crimes happen daily. I lived in LOS in 95 and crime was pretty bad then as well it just seemed worse this time. The one incident that really got to me was of a girl who was using a walkover near her university when confronted by some, I'll call him an animal who wanted to rape her. Of course she fought so the guy killed her, raped her and then stuck a knife up her vagaina and cut that part of her body to shreds. This was not really late at night and not really in a secluded spot. Also, police had a nifty little show down with an armed robber just a few blocks from where I was staying and finally shot him dead. I could go on and on. Just to explain to some of you who may not know crime is quite high and a lot of it doesn't get reported because of the asian tradition of letting the police sort things out between the family and the victim. People often pay money to get out of being prosecuted but it is not usually to the police unless it is a victimless crime such as possesion of drugs. The story I heard this trip and unfortunately I know it is true is of three boys aout 16 to 19 who ganged raped a 13 year old. This incident happened up country and the boys were released because their families paid a total of 40,000 baht to the victims family. Now they may take some other form of revenge later on but if it would have been my daughter prision would be a much safer place for those boys. I am still planning on moving to Thailand again and have never had any problems myself but just remember there is something else behind the LOS image Thailand tries to portray.
