Flashermac
Sounds about the same as Thailand. I remember when the US sent teachers to instruct the Khmer and Lao refugees in English before they went to the States. The American teachers got 60,000 baht a month, but the actual work turned out to have been done by Thai English teachers paid 16,000/month. The Farangs were just supervisors. Also, it was damned near impossible for any of us here to get the teaching jobs! At the time I already had years of experience teaching English to Thais, and spoke fluent Thai plus passable Lao. A colleague had about the same experience, but spoke fluent Vietnamese in addition to Thai. He'd actually run a refugee programme in the US. Both of us were rejected without explanation. I happened to pick up one of the refugee agency's magazines in their office. It contained some letters from their 60,000 baht teachers, writing home about how they were roughing it in SE Asia! And this was when foreign university lecturers got 13,000 baht a month salary/housing. And let's not even talk about UN salaries!!!
