The Howard Governmentâ??s refusal to show leadership at home or be part of international efforts to combat climate change is not only bad environmental policy, but also bad for the Australian economy. By not being part of the Kyoto Protocol Australian businesses are denied access to a multi-billion dollar carbon emissions trading scheme and the opportunity to participate in the development of alternative energy technology.

With respect to climate change, I'd say the Howard Governmentâ??s single greatest act of sabotage has been to turn a blind eye to the economic impact of climate change upon Australiaâ??s economy and security; both of which remain, to this day, unassessed.
