thalenoi
Friday night 1st June dutch TV aired a real-time show where a dying lady would donate her kidneys to one of 3 candidates who needed kidneys most. This show got a lot of controversiallity before it was aired, even by dutch parliament, some wanting the show to be forbidden. TV stations in the USA and Japan got word and sent reporters over!!! At the final moment when the lady would announce the name of the winner the presentator interrupted the show by announcing it was a set-up and a hoax meant to sensibilize the public for the problem of lacking organ donors. I did not watch that show, feeling reality TV shows are going too far. Although I am not alone thinking this, 1.200.000 people did watch the show. Around 1000 people called to have their names put on donor list, whether that will help remains to be seen. In Belgium you are on the list by default. junglesoup
Just heard today that it was all a set up. All the people involved in the show were in on it. It was done to get publicity and bring forward the issue of a shortage of doners. All in all, a good idea and very effective.
Julian2
Says a lot for reality shows though that not a single person questioned the format or suggested it may be a hoax.
Mike N
Last thing that i heared about it was that around 30.000 people sms-ed that wanted the forms to become a donor. So it was pretty effective.
