foreigner
[color:red]The Dims have done something to stop ultra moral christians / republican p4p government[/color]. they bar lawmakers and aides from accepting any gifts, meals or trips from lobbyists, they also impose penalties up to $200,000 and five years in prison on any lobbyist who provides such freebies. including treating campaign contributions as potential bribes. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/07/washington/07lobby.html?hp=&adxnnl=1&adxnnlx=1186459474-szHih/Ipld/lY+XO1Ans4A the 1st step
Faustian
I still find it incredible that lobbyists can be allowed to influence any matter at any level. It's totally incredible in this day and age.
foreigner
it's the politicians with their hands out. republican, & Vietnam fighter ace, duke cunningham actually had a payola menu .. for a contract worth $x he got $y. no way this issue could even been allowed for a vote under the republicans. 60 Minutes had a special on the SS prescription drug bill couple weeks ago.. "1/2 the repuiblicans" went to work for lobbying firms after the "no negotiating medication costs bill" was passed. & if that bill is changed to allow negotiating bush has said he would veto .. bush received $2m from big pharm. the ear marks .. ted stevens got a $.75b bridge built to a mostly uninhabited island where he & his friends own most of the land .. the bridge exits next to his fellow Alaska politician & co-conspirator's acreage. ted is being investigated, hope he can see the bridge from his 'unimproved for lack of funds' cell! chuckwoww
For me all this lobbying and earmarking makes it's very hard to distinguish between corruption and business as usual. Maybe it's only corruption when 3rd. world politicians do it?
foreigner
lobbyists, republicans, dims, and executive political appointees have been sent to jail .. & more on their way this white house & it's universal claims of executive privilege appears corrupt. the 1 white house witness that did testify conceded she committed criminal activity at the white house the scary part is the corruption, lying .. trickles down, what's good for our leaders is good for every body. government leadership is paving the way for a totally amoral christian america. OCgringo
Does anyone really think that a bunch of lawmakers are going to pass a law that will stop them frpom getting re-elected ? Sure they will make noise about it , but since it costs money to run for re-election they are not going to shoot themselves in the foot, Now the Dems may try and pass a law that hurts the "rich" republicans , but then it needs to get past Bush, I see this as playing to the crowd , Hey look we are doing something ! But nothing will get done..... OC
foreigner
it makes me feel better to see that I am not the only one to respond to posts without actually reading the post.. extemporaneous posting is my more polished fortes, too it's law from the top sentence of the link. the vote was x?x to 13 .. who were the 13 that had the balls to vote against an ethics bill? H. Stewart Van Scoyoc, founder of one of the biggest lobbying firms in Washington, spent an anxious morning with his lawyer last week assessing the far-reaching ethics and lobbying rules Congress had passed the day before. OCgringo
well the article says "President Bush has not said whether he would sign the bill, but it is already changing the culture of Capitol Hill in myriad ways, beginning with more Dutch treats and fewer steak dinners" so its not a law yet..... foreigner
extemporaneous posting is my more polished fortes. 13 congressmen had the balls to thumb their noses at all non-lobby-fied americans .. does bush have the cahones? not a legacy enhancing veto .. TheCorinthian
I loved it when Hilary said she would not stop taking lobbyist contributions.... And then dared to say that the money would not influence her! Good to see they are all alike.
